INTRADE: GOP VP Race (as of 07-21-12)

The buzz last week was all about Condi Rice. The Intrade folks weren't buying it. This week Tim Pawlenty seems to have the buzz. Unlike last week, Intrade is reflecting Pawlenty with those who put their money where their mouth is:

Ron Paul not impressed with Condi Rice and feels his supporters aren't either

Paul was on with Neil Cavuto when Cavuto brought up the VP rumors and Condi Rice. Paul feels that she won't win Romney any of his supporters:
“Even though she talked about, along with Bush in the year 2000, about a humble foreign policy and I thought, ‘Wow, we’re finally going to get a humble foreign policy and no nation-building,’ but it didn’t turn out that way and she would fit the bill for [Romney] but it wouldn’t help the Ron Paul supporters because they would like a different foreign policy.”
Here is the video below. His statement is at the 3:30 minute mark:

VP Watch: Is an early Romney VP announcement really a good idea?

The Boston Herald had a piece today that suggested maybe not.

Marco Rubio is in Boston today attending a fundraiser for Romney.
“They’re getting a lot of work out of these potential veep candidates who might not be working as hard for Romney once his candidate is chosen. There could be some hard feelings over that, and there usually are,” said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.

The long list of potential number twos has come in handy for Romney, who out-raised President Obama by $35 million in June thanks in part to a small army of surrogates pitching in across the country to boost Romney’s campaign coffers.

[...]

The Rubio trip isn’t the first of these pilgrimages. U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) came to Boston Monday to hold a low-key fundraiser for Romney. U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is due to hold a fundraiser for Romney in Illinois today.
Not everyone is like Mitt Romney. Who after John McCain chose Sarah Palin, worked hard for McCain to win him the election. While McCain's other opponents, for the most part, were no where to be found. Hopefully, if Romney announces early, those who were not chosen won't turn into shrinking violets.

Drudge thinks Condi Rice has moved to the top of Romney's VP list

The story is HERE.

It makes sense that Romney would not choose a current/non-retiring Senator or Congressman. Not with the important votes coming up in a Romney Presidency. He'll need all of those current Congressmen/woman , Senators ....AND SOME.

If true, I'll bet that Rice shares that top spot with:

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell
Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty
Lousiana Governor Bobby Jindal

If I were a betting man and Condi has really surfaced at the top of Romney's list, I think Bob McDonnell is probably right there with her.

Only time will tell.

Calling Dick Morris: Condi vs. Hillary VP Match?

I really like Condoleeza Rice. I think that it would be great to have the first woman and the first black Vice President on the Republican ticket. However, that is not why I like Rice. I like her because she is overwhelmingly qualified for the position. Rice would represent a sort of redemption from recent times.

But there is another reason.

There is a good chance that Barack Obama is going to switch Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. We Republicans should not underestimate this move. Hillary Clinton is going to excite the Democratic base as well as drawn in independents. Hillary is not the Hillary of four years ago -- she has a lot of support. And I can't think of a better debate than one between Rice and Clinton, two former Secretaries of State. The Republican nominee (Mitt Romney) needs to make sure that he picks somebody who can go toe to toe with Clinton in a debate. Rice is an intellectual powerhouse and just the right kind of person for that job.

A Rice versus Clinton race would also give Dick Morris a chance to get partial credit for a certain book he wrote back in 2005. He doesn't get much right, so I feel a little sorry for him.
