Breaking: Paul Ryan is Mitt Romney's VP!!!
Back in the early days of the 2012 election, there were talk of the possibility of Paul Ryan running for President and he denied any plans of throwing his hat in the ring. Yesterday, rumors starting swirling like a F5 tornado all day today about who Mitt Romney's pick would be. MSNBC and CBS declared late last night that the VP was Congressman Paul Ryan. However, Mitt Romney himself confirmed that Paul Ryan is the VP on the U.S.S. Minnesota.
Having Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's VP is a logical and bold choice for Mitt Romney. Lets go through each of those reasons.
Paul Ryan is a logical choice for Mitt Romney since the economy is still the top concern for American voters. He just doesn't talk about fixing the economy and reforming the government, he has actually put forward concrete plans. Paul Ryan's “Roadmap” is a fabulous plan to reduce our national debt. It is a bold, innovative, controversial and smart plan to head off the entitlement time bomb that America faces. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan share a vision of how to fix our economy. Paul Ryan liked Mitt's economic plan since a lot his ideas were similar to Paul Ryan's.
I think everyone, including libertarians, should be at least intrigued, if not excited, about a Romney/Ryan ticket because there is a legitimate complaint that American has been more focused on fixing problems abroad than at home. A Romney/Ryan ticket would be a strong indication that Mitt Romney plans to really focus on the problems here in America rather than abroad. Moreover, by picking Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney is attempting to offer the American people the starkest and most interesting choice on domestic policy that Americans haven't seen in a very long time. If we were back in the 1980's, this would have been a Reagan/Kemp ticket.
Moreover, the ticket is a devastating blow to Obama when it comes to the issue of the economy. As we all know, Obama is weak on the economy because he's never taken the economy seriously. Moreover, Obama and the Democrats haven't passed a budget yet and will be the first President in history not to have passed a budget.
The Romney/Ryan team is an interesting and historic ticket given that it is a Mormon/Catholic ticket. Its also a historic ticket because both religions have experienced discrimination in the US. There was a time that it was unheard of for a Catholic or a Mormon to be on a major ticket. This is a strong indication that we have come a long way since the 1960's when it comes to accepting a candidate based on his religion.
Picking Paul Ryan should appeal to religious conservatives since both men are pro-life. Moreover, Catholics have been turned off by the way Obama mislead the Catholic Church on the contraceptive issue. Its also a strong attempt to go after the Catholic vote.
Romney's choice is should also be appealing to the TEA party conservatives. Paul Ryan has been a rising star for this emerging section of the Republican party. He's been called the intellectual leader of the Republican party. By picking Paul Ryan, Romney may be trying to find a balance between Establishment Republicans and the Tea Partiers. I think Romney succeeded in finding this balance.
The Romney/Ryan ticket is an excellent challenge to the Obama/Biden ticket. Both the Presidential and Vice President will be a must see event. For a good preview of what a Ryan/Biden debate might look like, watch Paul Ryan take down Timothy Geithner.
One vulnerability that Mitt Romney faces is that Paul Ryan has been on record criticizing RomneyCare. But he has also been very vocal in his belief that his running mate will repeal ObamaCare.
Mitt Romney has made a very wise choice in selecting Romney. It is a bold and exciting ticket. Its a ticket that emphasizes Romney's focus on the economy. This is a smart move since it gives America a real clear choice about which direction we want to take on the economy. Its a perfect and serious challenge for the Obama Campaign. Way to go Mitt Romney for picking Paul Ryan!!!

The Obama Camp outwardly seeking dirt on Marco Rubio and Rob Portman
The Obama campaign launched a pre-emptive strike Tuesday on Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, attempting to gather dirt on the potential vice presidential pick by asking Floridians to share with the campaign “the good, bad and ugly” about him.In another Email:
Ashley Walker, director of Obama for America in Florida, blasted out the email Tuesday soliciting unflattering information on Rubio.
“Share what you think the rest of the country should know about what Rubio’s really done in Florida,” Walker wrote, “the good, bad and ugly. And why he’d be a disaster as our next vice president.”
[...]
“If and when Romney does select him, we need to be able to tell the full story about his record on Day One, which could very well be in the next few days,” according to the letter, reported by Politico. “As one of the architects of the top-down Bush budget, Portman practically invented the policies that punished middle-class families while exploding the deficit, and crashing our economy. ... Let's make sure we're ready.”Read the full story HERE.

Mitt Romney stayed in New Hampshire Monday to meet with some guests
The Republican presidential candidate had a busy morning puttering around the town of Wolfeboro, N.H., prepping for senior campaign advisers dropping by his summer house today.
He went to a local hardware and grocery store, where he picked up fresh corn and a load of soft drinks, including caffeine-free Diet Coke. When asked by press if he was planning on entertaining today, he responded "I've got some folks coming over today," but coyly laughed when asked if any of his vice presidential contenders - specifically Ohio Sen. Rob Portman - would be in attendance.
[...]
As Romney rounded out his morning errands at a drug store this morning, he apologized to a woman who had been blocked in by his secret service detail. All was quickly forgiven. "It's because you're a very special person," she responded, giving him a thumbs up.Read the full story HERE.

VP Watch: Jim DeMint to colleagues..enough with the fluff
A bipartisan group of senators led by South Carolina Republican Jim DeMint introduced the Pay for Printing Act Thursday, which would require senators to pay for celebratory “simple resolutions” with money from their own budgets.
During the 112th Congress, the Senate has already passed over 350 simple resolutions, and introduced over a 100 more. They have mostly been symbolic, feel-good declarations including, as The Daily Caller reported in June: “National Chess Day,” “National Safe Digging Month,” “Year of Water,” “National Inventors Month,” “Collector Car Appreciation Day,” and “The Year of the Family Caregiver.”
DeMint’s office points out that each resolution page costs an estimated $1,200. A Daily Caller investigation in June revealed that the 318 simple resolutions passed since January 2011 cost taxpayers $381,600. Dozens of additional simple resolutions have been passed since then, and their total price tag in this Congress now amounts to more than $400,000.The full story is HERE.
Thank you Senator DeMint. Every little bit helps....and you're still my favorite for Mitt Romney's running mate.

VP Watch: Marco Rubio Campaigns for Mitt Romney in Orlando, Florida
Mitt Romney headed to Colorado Thursday, but that didn't stop supporters in Central Florida from rallying for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.Read the full article HERE. There is also a segment from Rubio's speech below:
One of those supporters, Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, spoke on Romney's behalf in Orange County, touting the former Massachusetts governor's belief in free enterprise.
Rubio, who has been mentioned as a potential running mate for Romney, spoke to a crowd of Romney supporters outside Harbco General Contractors, an Orlando construction business, that he quipped "Barack Obama thinks he built."
The Republican junior senator was on the attack, hitting the president hard when it comes to economy, especially Obama's now infamous statement that "If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."

VP Watch Paul Ryan: Entrepreneurial Capitalism vs Crony Capitalism (Video 08-02-12)

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan has usually cast himself as the voice of reason in debates. Which is to say that Ryan isn’t typically known for raising his voice or getting excited about topics very often, preferring the comfort of impartial statistics to polemical or ideological argumentation. The full story is HERE and part of Ryan's speech is below:
Yet today, Ryan threw off that image a bit and revealed a surprisingly convincing passionate side, in a speech that had National Review’s Robert Costa wondering if Ryan was rehearsing for a Republican National Convention speech. And if he was, could it be the coveted Vice Presidential slot that many are speculating Ryan is a frontrunner to receive?
