How much is it costing NJ Taxpayers for Gov Christie to screw the GOP?

Just $24 Million Dollars.

That's the cost of the two special elections to elect someone to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the death of Frank Lautenberg.

Want to pour salt on the wound? Christie appointed his Attorney General Jeff Chiesa to fill the post until the election is held. Chiesa has stated that he has no intention of being a candidate to fill the seat and will only hold it until the special election chooses Lautenberg's replacement. That replacement would hold the seat until 2014.

Christie could have appointed someone through 2014 or AT LEAST someone who plans to run? It would have at least given that person a foot in the door against the Democrat.

Now Christie will tell everyone he wants the citizens of NJ to pick the Senator not him. THAT'S BULL SHIT! Then why not hold the election in November? He'd save taxpayers half of that $24 Million.

The REALITY IS that this is about Christie and his ego. He's up for reelection in November and most polls have him at about a 30 point lead over his Democratic opponent Barbara Buono. If he has the primary in October and the final in November the same day as his election, there is a good chance more Democrats would have come out to vote because the popular Newark Mayor Cory Booker will more than likely be on the ballot as the Democrat's candidate for the Senate seat. A Greater turnout on that day could cut into what Christie hopes will be a major wipeout over Buono.

So you see, it's not about The Senate seat, it's about his victory over his opponent and how that could help boomerang him into a 2016 Presidential run.

Meanwhile, there goes a Senate seat that the GOP could have been guaranteed through 2014.

Or perhaps the title could be worded: 'How much is it costing NJ Taxpayers for Gov Christie offer the NJ electorate a choice of whom they wish to represent them in the US Senate?'

Christie is no friend to Republicans. We could gave had that senate seat through 2012. Christie let his EGO decide.

YOu have a point, I must admit on one issue. To artificially bag the seat with a Republican until 2014 isn't really fair to the electorate, given that 99.9% chance if will be a Dem who will eventually get it.
However, I agree that why couldn't he have made the primary anytime pre NOv, and the actual general (senate) election on Nov 5th, the same day has his re-election date? If they were just extending the length of the ticket, surely that small printing cost would be a LOT cheaper than the, what 12 or so million to run a separate Senate election? I mean Nov 5th - Oct 16th is 20 days (31 days in Oct) !!

And it does show his true internal thinking of his thoughts of '16. No way he'd do that otherwise without knowing to himself pretty much already that baring a freak event, he's running.
