Romney Is Having A Ron Paul Problem At Minnesota's District Conventions

There are still four more District conventions to go. So far, Ron Paul has 10 delgates. Santorum has 2. Romney has zip.
Mitt Romney may be the supposed frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination – but he’s not the most popular GOP candidate in Minnesota. Texas Congressman Ron Paul swept the 3rd, 5th and 6th Congressional District conventions over the weekend. Paul landed nine of nine state delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. Paul also won one delegate in Minnesota’s 7th District March 31st while Rick Santorum picked up two....

Give it a rest already. Do you honestly believe these little intramural dramas are news worthy?

Comic relief at best.

I didn't know human beings exist in Minnesota.

Doug,

With all of the delgates he's piling up, Ron Paul will have to be dealt with at the convention, so it's newsworthy. Sorry.

You know I'm no Paul fan.

Ron Paul may have 100 delegates at the convention. Why will he have to be dealt with? I think his leverage is a third party run....and his sons leverage in the GOP is the check on that route

This is similar to all those straw polls where Bachman or Paul would win. It's kind of good in a way. Romney knocked Paul out of some sure wins in Maine, Washington and 1 or 2 other places so we might as well throw him a bone.

Right Wingnut said...

Craig, I think he will have more than that. The same thing happened in CO and WA and will reportedly happen in MO this weekend. Perhaps other states too, although those are the only ones I know of at this time.

Ron Paul is an afterthought in this election, he is not piling up delegates and hence, does not have to dealt with, period. Romney will continue his victory march all the way to the oval office. This is not newsworthy.

I do not See this as a surprise as MN was one of the few states he received third place. The associated press even predicted a long time ago that Mitt would have 0 delegates and the delegates elected to the district conventions where during the Santorum surge. This will not hurt Romney's ability to take the nomination and it is not saying that no one there won't vote for Mitt in the general.

RW I have seen many of your post's and you have the right to support who want and you fought a good fight for your pick but at some point someone has to loose and you can cry or complain or you can choose to pick yourself up by the bootstraps, shed your pessimism and do all you can to get Obama out of office. Now is that time as it was going to be a uphill battle for whoever was chosen to be the nominee.

Great post. Thanks for the update!

Oh come on...this is not that big a deal...there were always some states where Ron Paul was going to have some delegates, after all he is very organized and his people are fanatical...HOWEVER, in the long run I don't think it is going to be that big a deal.

I know that will break your heart RWN, since you are obviously in the hopes of some melt down and catastrophe at the convention..but I don't think that will happen.

I guess I have heard these kinds of hysterical pronouncements so many times from Romney haters that I have just sort of tuned them out.

I love OJ and his auto-response of "Great Post" to any and all anti-Romney posts RWN puts up.

LOL

Ron Paul is no threat. Romney will treat him respectfully and give him a nice speech slot at the convention.

There is no "have to be dealt with" here...it all exists in the fevered and fertile imagination of RWN.

Right Wingnut and Ohio Joe,

Neither of you has one iota of class. If you honestly think coming on here and "sticking it to the establishment" by pointing out that anti-war anarchist college kids who have no jobs go out to conventions and vote is newsworthy, you're delusional.

Seriously, just give it up. Romney's the nominee, he's kicking ass, and he has an excellent chance of winning this fall.

Now, if you had honest motives, you'd write a post that basically says, "Let's not forget about Ron Paul. He's still getting delegates in some of the conventions. We're going to need some of his supporters in November, so we need to make sure we treat him with respect" that's one thing.

But it's entirely another to come on here and just dump on Romney. Get a life. Your candidate didn't run and your second choices lost. Get a new hobby.

Mass Con, no disrespect to your ideas for a Ron Paul post, but none of you would have a reason to comment on it. In other words.....BORING!

I guess Paul is closer to their liking. Kind of like Jesse Ventura and Al Franken.

On the bright side, Romney didn't count on any delegates in Minn, so this is a moot point.

My cross post on Redstate has been tweeted at least 36 times, and his been "liked" over 2000 times on Facebook. At least someone appreciates it. ;)

I also included a cross post link to this site from Redstate, so I suspect Bosman appreciates the extra traffic.

Love all the idiots thinking Ron Paul is moot point. I hate Obama with a fiery passion but none of the Republican candidates can even hold a flame to Mr. Paul. So keep being good sheeple and voting along party lines for the cute face on TV or wake up and vote for this insanely intelligent man who makes the other candidates look like children and who is willing to do what it takes to fix our economy and put the constitution back on its pedestal where it belongs.

What I find most irritating is all of you that are so focused on this political party battle that is long past its time so everyone votes for the frontrunner in the party simply because he has a good chance of winning. Well how about sacking up for once and doing the American thing and voting for who you actually believe will help this country and not worrying so much about being the winning party. College is an epicenter for free thought and revolutionary movements which is exactly what this corrupt system needs, a total overhaul. No wonder college students are the only ones independant and ballsy enough to do whats right.

Machtyn said...

A Paulbot calling other candidates' fans "sheeple". That's funny.

Now, having said that, Ron Paul is a decent, if not weird, guy. He has some things encouragingly and positively correct. He has some things detrimentally and dangerously wrong. It is what he has wrong that causes me to pause on voting for him. It's his lack of accomplishment that causes me to say no to a nomination for the biggest office.

Even if there were 100,000 likes in every social media site nationwide, this story is posted at isn't going to change anything, so it really doesn't matter unless you've trying to win some kind of moral victory? Everyone knows Romney will win more than the required amount of delegates, so who cares?

Right Wingnut said...

Joel, I don't believe it will alter the end result either, buts it gives many a Paul supporter, who get banned on sight from Redstate, a reason to believe that their hard work is being rewarded some how. The entire conservative/ GOP movement does not revolve around Mitt Romney.

Hi. I'm BCSWowbagger. I'm a lifelong Republican, and, somewhat reluctantly became a Ron Paul supporter this January, because I believed him to be the best of an imperfect slate. I know Romney is going to win the nomination. I'd still like to see my guy win as many delegates as possible, to ensure that his ideas are taken seriously by the party at Tampa.

At least, that was my attitude coming into this thread. I am also from Minnesota, and I read the above posts. Now I finally know who all the Romney supporters in my party are: a bunch of pretentious know-nothing New Englanders who believe themselves and their pathetic inch-deep political commitments to be the cutting edge of conservatism. You are classless, small-minded trolls. I am disgusted to share membership in a party with you, and, for the first time, I begin to think the nation may benefit from the secession of the Paulites and the dissolution of the GOP -- if only because it would isolate deep-blue-state egomaniacs like you within your own impotent political enclave.

This, gentlemen of the East Coast, is how you destroy a political party: treat your proud co-partiers like trash and political idealism like a bourgeois fad.

If you object to the stereotypes above, good. Try not to use them against Minnesota Republican next time they come up.

GeneLives,

Great post. Welcome to my world. I've been dealing with these jackasses for a few years now. Of course, they would say the same about me. We kind of have an understanding, I guess.

I agree with every word of your post. I'm a Minnesotan too.

Just consider the source of this. RWN hates all things Romney. He has 'issues' with a competent person running for office.

So, a lot of folks 'liked' you. I hope your self esteem got the boost you were looking for.

Ellie,

No self esteem boost...just amazed at the organization of the Paul people to get enough people to "like" that obscure post.

Contrary to what you say, I don't HATE Mitt. I don't hate anyone. Not even you.

Ask Bosman if he appreciates the extra generated from my cross post link. Look to the right. They even dug up my post from the caucus room. Surprised more than anything. Imagine if Mitt generated that level of enthusiasm.
