It's Either Romney or a Brokered Convention.

Newt Gingrich will not be the Republican nominee.
Rick Santorum will not be the Republican nominee.
Ron Paul will not be the Republican nominee.

The delegate race looks something like this.

Romney   339
Gingrich  111
Santorum 107
Paul          30

Those who remain resistant to Romney need to understand that they are only making it much more difficult for Republicans to win in November. The ability of the Romney campaign to credibly express this is paramount for the future success of the Republican Party. If Romney can't put this away quickly, then he can't swing back to the middle, and he can't win the Presidency. And then for the next four years we will hear nothing but how Republicans shouldn't nominate a centrist anymore.

There is a lot riding on the competency of the Romney campaign.

Pablo, exactly.

Romney came out with the first memo today. We need to see this talked about relentlessly by Romney, the campaign, and the surrogates.

Rick, Newt and Paul all need to be pressured to explain how they can get to the nomination. They all know they can't, and I'm tired of them getting a pass.

How in the hell does the right-wing media get away with working for the other side?!

I would love to see an ad featuring every big name for Romney calling on the three stooges to drop out.

Amen Martha! This is exactly what's got my panties in a knot. Romney dropped out on February 7, 2008 in order to unite the party. In 2012 the candidates are going to do irreparable harm to Romney. They will deplete his funding sources and the GOP will get slaughtered in November. And it'll be blamed on Romney being a "weak" candidate. When in fact the right-wing media will have been the perpetrators all along. The ad you mention should be directed to Santorum and Gingrich and titled, "Et tu Brute?"

Phil. Exactly. Romney set the example of a principled statesman in 08. These clowns are in it for themselves alone. They do not care about winning in Nov.

Gingrich = Curly
Santorum = Larry

This is just what Obama and the domocrats wanted, a long drawn out GOP race. Too bad Santorum, Gingrich, (forget Paul)are too caught up in their own damn pride and self aggradizing that they dont care any longer about defeating Barack Obama.

Romney can come in 2nd in remaining states and probably still win.

I read today that Romney is 415. I think he will win it..He won't win them all, no one ever does unless he is an incumbent president,but I do think Romney will pull it out.

Pablo, your post is the bitter-tasting tonic we need today to overcome our media-induced indigestion about Romney's victories. Yes, VICTORIES. The media, including the D.C. Punditocracy, can't stand putting the word "victory" in the same sentence as Romney's name.

Your comment that the far rightwing, including talk radio, is trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy to use against Romney and the phantom GOP "establishment" after a hoped-for loss in 2012 is absolutely correct:

"And then for the next four years we will hear nothing but how Republicans shouldn't nominate a centrist anymore."

But, like getting rid of cockroaches in a dark urban apartment, shining a bright light on these crawling creatures is the way to dispel them.

I'm tired of the ceaseless call for a galvanizing personality around which all Republicans can coalese. (Obama ran with soaring rehtoric, a clear majority,and look how he turned out.) Reagan was attacked as a shallow actor when he ran. Romney is a throughly vetted, competent leader. It's time committed Republicans (especially Evangelicals with a "Mormon" hangup) have the moral courage to edify him. We are reaching a point where our reluctance to do so only reflects our own failings of character as individual citizens. It's time for courage and committment.

It is time to end he nonsense and rally behind the one candidate who can realistically defeat the incumbent. Let's all hope the remaining candidates do he right thing and exit the race so we can focus on winning the general election.
