Is Rick Perry a birther or just desperate for their support?

In an interview with Sunday's Parade Magazine, Perry danced around what should have been a pretty easy question to answer:

Q. Governor, do you believe that President Barack Obama was born in the United States?
A. I have no reason to think otherwise.
Q. That’s not a definitive, “Yes, I believe he”—
A. Well, I don’t have a definitive answer, because he’s never seen my birth certificate.
Q. But you’ve seen his.
A. I don’t know. Have I?
Q. You don’t believe what’s been released?
A. I don’t know. I had dinner with Donald Trump the other night.
Q. And?
A. That came up.
Q. And he said?
A. He doesn’t think it’s real.
Q. And you said?
A. I don’t have any idea. It doesn’t matter. He’s the president of the United States. He’s elected. It’s a distractive issue.

Ok, Perry might be the last person I'd ever vote for, but I don't see the issue here. Parade were the ones trying make it an issue. Perry SEEMS to think the same as me, unless I'm missing something.

I've never cared, never thought it was an issue. If anyone thought it should be an issue, they should have done something about well before the election.

I thought "birthers" were defined as people who definitively think Obama was not born in the U.S. and is, therefore, ineligible for the office. I just didn't see that in Perry's response. He's right, there are more important issues to discuss--why waste time on that?

That was a gotcha series of questions. Maybe he should have just said "no".

Birthers are like Truthers....they are just asking questions doncha know and no answer is ever enough.

I'm sorry. Perry is too dumb to know that he was too dumb to run for POTUS. It's sad.

I agree Martha.

Perry is proving he's not the brightest bulb in the group of candidates.

In fact, I put him at the bottom after Cain and Bachmann.
