Mitt Romney going to the Palmetto Freedom Forum after a conversation with Jim DeMint

Mitt Romney will have a busy Labor Day weekend. He will be attending an event in Concord NH on Sunday and another on Monday morning in Manchester before flying to South Carolina to take Part in the Palmetto Freedom Forum put on by Jim DeMint.

Romney had originally not planned on attending. Then he changed his schedule around so that he could. It seems that Romney and DeMint had a recent conversation:
Romney had originally indicated he would not attend the DeMint event, but he changed his mind after a conversation with the influential conservative.
“He’s a good friend, and we wanted to do what we could to make it work,” said senior Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom of their schedule change. DeMint was a key Romney backer in 2008, but is holding out this election cycle. Romney’s reconsideration suggests that the South Carolinian hasn’t ruled out endorsing the former governor again. (emphasis mine)
The full story is HERE.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during that conversation. I still believe DeMint in the end, will endorse Mitt Romney.

For those that haven't seen this video, here is DeMint talking about Mitt Romney during Romney's 08 run. Everything DeMint admired about Romney back then, applies even more so today:

Well, perhaps losing the front-runnership is just what Mr. Romney needed to wake him up. I hope it is truly the case that he is learning that it is better to please the Right instead of the Left.

I for one do not intend to vote for Mr. Romney in the primary, but now that he is at least starting to pay attention to Consevrative, i am little more willing to consider him in the general election were it to come to that.

It was announced before that it would not be shown on tv, but a local channel in the area has now agreed to broadcast on tv, this also may have been a factor.

"hes looking at who can BEAT obama, and right now its only romney." Well, as of today, that is no longer the case.

"One Poll means didly squat." Yeah, until the next poll comes out.

Perry is only tied with Obama in his own state of Texas,

Romney BEATS Obama there. Outside the MOE.

I think this event will be more important than the debate that follows for both Romney and Perry.

I hope Perry goes on the attack first so Romney can nail him.

Perry IS NOT quick on his feet.

Perry is leading Obama in the latest Rasmussen poll so to believe only Romney could win in the general election is out for an argument. Perry 2012!
