Romney Religion Issue At Fox News? - NY Times Reader's Comment

While reading the below linked story on the Romney Campaign in the NY Times, I came across a reader’s comment I thought I’d share. I think it speaks for itself and is quite good, as is the Times article.

Romney Undeterred by Perry, or by Poll Numbers By Ashley Parker

LEBANON, N.H. — Mitt Romney, trying to brush off questions about Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, his Republican competitor in the 2012 presidential contest, offered a clear description of his campaign strategy during a press briefing in Claremont, N.H., on Wednesday.

“You know what, if you’re running for president, your focus should be on the person who is president and his failures and how you’re going to make America better,” Mr. Romney said. “That’s what I’ve been speaking about since the beginning of my campaign. That’s what I’m going to continue to speak about.”

Read the rest Here.

Here's the Reader’s Comment:

Romney is having the same problem early on, as four years ago seeking the presidency. The media exposure was highly negative to Romney and his personal religious faith.
It was Fox & Friends, sometimes known as Fox News, that led the way to a Romney demise four years ago. Back then, it was Brit Hume, highly touted as one of the best in news commentary, to paraphrase, said..."Romney will have a problem getting elected because he is a Mormon". The millions of Fox viewers knew that Romney was a Mormon...and if they didn't they were told by Mr. Hume. The expressed negative implication was stark...it was not...fair and balanced.

The very thought expressed by Brit Hume back then to imply that an outstanding American, who served as Governor of Massachusetts would be rejected by fellow Americans because of his religion is a sign of a news network that has gone astray. Fox News did not remind the millions of their viewers back then when Obama was running for president...that he was black and would have a problem getting elected.

Fast forward, today, Rick Perry, a professed devout Christian, picking up the baton from Huckabee, will surely benefit from Fox & Friends in his bid to take back the country. A scary thought that all Americans should consider what it means...take back the country. A second term Obama presidency woulld be acceptable by most Americans than a first term Perry presidency. The problem that some in the Christian electorate have with the Romney religious affiliation...is precisely the problem Perry will have in the general election if he gets there....the Perry religious affiliation. Many ways to express it...live by the sword, die by the sword..

Rick Perry wants to take back the country in the name of his religion...sounds of emotional rebellion and division.

Mitt Romney (the one we are supposed to be afraid of) wants to lead the nation, aside of his religion...sounds of rational thinking and reconciliation.

Fair and balanced?

I wonder if Fox News will play the clip of the Perry interview with Pastor James Robison where he says America's economic problems are God's punishment for straying from Biblical principles ? This was a recent interview and is disturbing. A national Prayer Day will NOT solve this country's economic woes and a half intelligent Christian should know it. So, Perry is either a bit dim witted or he knows and is pandering to the Evangelical audience that listens to the Pastor. Kind of a mix of Dick Nixon and Huey Long

I think everyone that reads this should send an email to Fox, Fox and Friends, O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. Their handling of Romney is obvious because they "soft" to obviously promote Bachman and now on to Perry. Their "fair and balanced" is non-existent when it comes to THEIR agenda.

"Fox & Friends"
Fox News
"Bill O'Reilly"
Sean Hannity

Thanks for the "find"!

"we distort you comply" That is just perfect and really sums up the Fox News agenda and their lemming following.

Romney got treated like crap by Fox back in 2008. I watched Fox every day back then and eventually got so mad at O'Reily, that i quit watching him after the GOP convention. It's too bad that they still have an agenda to stop Romney, but at least I don't have cable any more and they aren't making any money off of me.

They are ALL soft on Perry. Fox will do NO REAL VETTING on Perry!
