Why the Left is Afraid of a Mike Huckabee Nomination: His Willingness to Talk in any Venue

What scares the left most about Mike Huckabee is his willingness to go to any forum and talk about issues that most potential candidates shy away from. And when he does, Mike Huckabee comes across as reasonable while sticking to his principles. Mike Huckabee has gone on The Daily Show several times, talking about abortion, gay marriage, and now the separation of church and state. Jon Stewart enjoys his conversations with Huckabee because rather than tip toe around an issue, Mike Huckabee answers the questions deftly and with facts to back it up.

As The LA Times, points out Mike Huckabee has the ability to change people's hearts and he has the likeability factor:

After the back-and-forth ended, it appeared that Huckabee's Positive Score intensified within Stewart's heart as well.

Jon Stewart: Can I tell ya something, though?

Mike Huckabee: Tell me something.

Stewart: I love you.

Huckabee: Well, thank you.

Stewart: Because you challenge beliefs that I have and you challenge easy beliefs that I have and you force me to reconsider them in the context of other issues, and I really do appreciate you being able to do that with such good humor.

If the left fears Huckabee, why are they and the media all but ignoing his idiotic comments about indoctrinating all Americans at gunpoint?

And, why does PPP/Daily Kos/SEIU and the rest of the left leaning pollesters and media continue to try to coax him into the race?

The Democrat party would like nothing more than a Huckabee candidacy.

As much as I dislike Huck, I do have to agree with this post. Huck has a talent for connecting with many different types of people (not all) and in many different situations.

RWN, he was making a joke. As noted by the laughter in the audience.

Correction--I don't agree with the title that the left is afraid of him or any of our potential candidates. Their strategy and tactics will simply be adjusted depending on who is nominated.

The left does not fear Huckabee. The Media does not fear him either (he's now one of them). Mike loves money, thus, he will not give up his gig with Fox to run for an position he will certainly lose.

I have to agree with RW. If Palin said the gun thing--can you just imagine. I also agree with hamaca, the left will adjust accordingly.

Huck never did get much scrutiny, but if he runs and stays near the top (big ifs), all of his past will be in play. The gaffes, the lack of seriousness on policy, the clemencies, the ethics issues, the flip flops, etc. He's a gold mine.

It won't matter how nice a guy he seems to be in interviews. Just under the surface is a really nasty character.

The left fearing Huckabee??? That's a new one, what else do you have?

"RWN, he was making a joke"

That won't matter given the Evangelical Zealot like setting. That's something you just DO NOT joke about.

TC,
Thank you for posting the videos. I enjoyed watching them. Huckabee is an accomplished debater and he will be a strong candidate for both the nomination and the general election - if he wins the nomination. I would love to see a debate between him and Obama.

The media also ignored the story about the destroying of the records before leaving office in Arkansas. Drudge felt it newsworthy, but none of the main stream news outlets bothered to report it. Even Politico ignored it. If it were Palin, Romney, Gingrich, or Bachmann, it would have been the headline story.

TCon, What explanation do you have for THAT!

TC, you have absolutely no shame when it comes to Huckabee. In your world Huckabee bears no responsibility for the Clemmons or Dumond murders. He didn't flip on cap and trade. There is no legitimacy to the claims of ethics violations by him while governor. He didn't use religion as a wedge issue. He doesn't want to indoctrinate all of America at gunpoint. It wasn't a floating cross in that commercial. He never ran negative campaign adds. He really didn't mean anything nasty when he called Palin a crackhead. He doesn't actually want to rewrite the constitution to align with his interpretation of God's will.

You are the most intellectually dishonest poster here at RightSpeak. But that is a trend amongst Huckabee supporters. With the exception of Granny, your camp is several laps ahead of all the other camps in intellectual dishonesty and egregious spin. Even Granny indulges in spin from time to time. Yes, there are members of every camp who spin. But none do so as much as the Huck supporters.

Huckabee could be caught on multiple videos, mutilating kittens in Times Square, with thousands watching, and you and all your Huckabuddies would never acknowledge any wrongdoing on his part, but would spin and swear your undying fealty to Huckabee.

If Huckabee can discuss controversial issues in such a diplomatic and likeable way, then why were all records of his sermons destroyed? What does he have to fear by their release? Why won't he release the transcript of his address to the Southern Baptist Convention held in Salt Lake City in 1998 where he gave the keynote address? What did he say that had to be scrubbed?

Why did his administration, as its last act, destroy all the hard drives of all the computers from his governors office?

Not since Nixon has any politician gone to such great lengths to scrub his record. And the level of complicity from the Huckabee supporters in trying to rewrite his record and his personality is astounding.

Right Wingnut said...

Whoa...I don't know about the convention in Salt Lake City. I did a quick search for the transcript to no avail. There is, however, a treasure trove of articles about the history between Southern Baptists and Mormons. Apparently, SLC was selected so they could convert people from Mormon to Southern Baptist. Sounds like they got about 1000 converts, if reports are true. I would also be quite interested in what Huck has to say that day. If it's not controversial, why destroy the transcript?

Right Wingnut said...

Not trying to start a controversy, but I didn't know there was such a rivalry between Southern Baptists and Mormons.

The left did have several stories on the "gun issue" from Huckabee's talk to religious leaders. The reason the story didn't stick is because Huckabee is known for his humor and everybody knows it was a joke...the audience laughed. It's too bad that you people who think you are Christian don't get what Huckabee was saying. He wishes everybody would get to listen to Dave Barton who has documentation to back up what he said. Our heritage for the Constitution was from Christian men and some of them Christians. Then we wouldn't have the nonsense, "separation of church and state" issue so much. As Huckabee stated in one of the videos above, the first amendment was to protect the churches from the state and to make sure there was not one official religion everybody had to adhere to. Apparently some of you are commenting about his interview with Jon Stewart without watching the videos above. Get your facts straight!

Hey there anonymous, aka Craig for Huck. Huckabee's MO is to say what he really means with a smile and a laugh. The fact that he said that in jest is, frankly, a gaurantee that he meant exactly what he said. That is how he delivers his message.

That US News article is weak. Mother Jones rebutted it. They didn't use anonymous sources for their original article either. They used public records.

Right Wingnut said...

Here's the Mother Jones response to his lame explanation, complete with indisputable evidence. Someone should do a post, and include the image in Jones's article. I'm not in the mood, but it proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Huckabee is a liar.
