PPP Polling: Romney gaining in Ohio

The race for the state’s Republican convention delegates is as muddled as can be. Mike Huckabee leads with 19% over Mitt Romney’s 18%, Newt Gingrich’s 16%, and Sarah Palin’s 15%, with four others in single digits and 13% undecided. In December, Palin led with 21% over Huckabee’s 19%, Gingrich’s 18%, and Romney’s 15%.
Favorable/Unfavorable/Not sure:

Mike Huckabee 67/19/14 (+48)
Sarah Palin 61/28/11 (+33)
Mitt Romney 53/26/21 (+27)
Newt Gingrich 46/29/24 (+17)

If the Republican candidates for President next year were Haley Barbour, Mitch Daniels, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty, and Mitt Romney who would you vote for? [December's numbers]

Mike Huckabee 19% [19%]
Mitt Romney 18% [15%]
Newt Gingrich 16% [18%]
Sarah Palin 15% [21%]
Ron Paul 7%
Tim Pawlenty 5%
Mitch Daniels 4%
Haley Barbour 2%
Someone else/Undecided 13%
PPP surveyed 400 usual Ohio Republican primary voters from March 10th to 13th. The survey’s margin of error is +/-4.9%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.

Romney's rise from 4th to almost 1st is interesting. Any theories?

With a margin of error nearing 5 percent, the difference might have been something as simple as OJ spending too much time with his family to answer the phone. :)

PPP is doing Michigan next, which should be a Romney win. If any other pollster were doing it, Mitt would win Michigan big.

It will be nice when the REAL pollsters start polling the Republican field.
