PPP Polling: Huckabee the favorite in Nebraska

Dakota’s John Thune, and 1% for Mitch Daniels. The race could not be any more up in the air. Unlike in other states, Romney does not post a lead with moderates here, but he does show his typical weakness with conservatives. Huckabee has insignificant leads with both groups.

Monday’s release showed that Palin would be a point behind President Obama in the
general election, while the other three frontrunners would put the perennially red state out of reach.

Favorable/Unfavorable/Not sure:

Mike Huckabee 62/18/20 (+44)
Sarah Palin 62/28/10 (+34)
Mitt Romney 51/23/27 (+28)
Newt Gingrich 50/24/25 (+26)

If the Republican candidates for President next year were Mitch Daniels, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, and John Thune who would you vote for?

Mike Huckabee 21%
Sarah Palin 19%
Newt Gingrich 18%
Mitt Romney 15%
Ron Paul 8%
Tim Pawlenty 4%
Mitch Daniels 1%
John Thune 3%
Someone else/Undecided 12%
PPP surveyed 519 usual Nebraska Republican primary voters from January 26th to 27th. The survey’s margin of error is +/-4.3%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.

I thought Huckabee had this state sewed up?

with an MOE of +/-4.3%, it's a statistical tie between Huckabee, Palin, Gingrich, and Romney at the top.

Favorite until they show the matchup against Obama? So many of the states have shown Mitt doing best against Obama when he wasn't tops in the primary poll.

IG,

I agree follow the link to 'Monday's release', And Romney is again THE BEST candidate against Obama.

In 90% of these polls, Huckabee wins in favorables, but loses when it comes to head-to-head against Obama.

It's awfully close in Nebraska!

I thought the corn belt was all Huck and Palin?

In the Nebraska poll:
Huckabee beats Onama by 13 points (51 to 38) and Romney beats Obama by 12 points (49 to 37).

This poll is good news for Mr. Romney because it gives him 4 delegates instead of 2 and he is within range of getting 3 or 4 more. It is bad news unfortunately for Mr. Pawlenty because he loses his delegates.

Does anyone know the ideological breakdown of Nebraska voters? I would assume they're mostly Republican. Since Palin is within the MOE of 1st place, I do not understand how she loses to Obama by 1 point in the head to head?

Something is fishy in these PPP polls.

I personally don't believe that both Palin and Huckabee will run. If one of them sits this one out, the other will get most of their voters. Plus, it is ONE YEAR until the primaries. A lot can happen in that time. According to the polls in 2007, Giuliani and Clinton were supposed to win the nominations easily. How did that turn out?

I don't take too muck stock in any polls this far out and before anyone says anything, I would say the same thing if Palin was way out in front.

AJR, I hear you...we talked about that the other night, but this is getting ridiculous. I guess if any poll matters, at this point...it's the Republican primary polls and they, usually, put Palin with the MOE. Wait and see I guess.

Did Tom get upset with all of the negative comments posted on his blog? He hasn't released any more poll results since those lunatics went off on him.
