President Obama: Clueless in this battle

With the Presidents State of the Union address approaching, he seems clueless as to how to wage a war against this bad economy.
Three days before Christmas, President Obama gathered his economic team in the West Wing’s Roosevelt Room to review themes for his State of the Union address. The edge-of-the-cliff crisis he inherited had passed, but with more than 14 million Americans still out of work, he was looking for bold ways to bring down unemployment. The ideas presented to him, though, seemed familiar and uninspired. “You know, guys,” he said, according to someone in the room, “I’ve told you before, I want you to come to me with ideas that excite me.” Nothing he was hearing excited him.

When in doubt, spend more money!

Report: Obama to use SOTU to call for … new spending

President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said.
Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy. The new spending could include initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sector—which received billions of dollars in stimulus funding—and rebuilding roads to improve transportation, people familiar with the matter said. Money to restructure the No Child Left Behind law’s testing mandates and institute more competitive grants also could be included.

This sounds like New-Age, re-packaged New Dealism, complete with all maudlin talking points.

Jobs: The Dems will insist we need to focus on the rebuilding of roads/infrastructure etc., providing millions of new (union) jobs, while accusing the GOP of being heartless, anti-worker skinflints, for wanting to cut spending.

Education: "Good God Republicans! How can you be against program for our precious children?

Renewable-Energy: Ah, this one I don't think anyone but hard core lefties believe in. Let's see some practicle results before dropping more dough on this idea.

Any update on whether the parties are going to sit together? I sure hope not.

I don't where they sit makes a big difference at all - that's just the showmanship of the night. Three days after the speech folks won't give a hoot about it. In fact in the Fox News poll Bosman posted, most people, including GOPers, approved of it. Silly talk show drama.

One interesting idea I heard from Daniel Foster at NRO, was to have members sit together by state delegation. I think they may have done this in the past.

Having them sit together makes Obama look like a unifier. It's a terrible idea for the GOP to go along with it.

Here is a man with a very short public career and NO business or private sector background.

Until elected President, Running the economy to him meant balancing the household check book.

Obama is way out of his league. What makes it even worse is that he's surrounded by idiots.

I agree with both the Rev and Conman!

President of the United States is a huge job. It has so many complex issues and challenges. Obama has proven time and again that he is NOT up for it. He has occasional bright spots, but his overall record of competence is abyssal.

Mitt Romney is the man for the job. No one else out there can touch him when it comes to his combination of intelligence, his record of success, class, and accomplishments.
