PPP Polling: Obama would easily win Nevada again...except against Romney

Barack Obama would easily take Nevada if he had to stand for reelection today...unless the Republicans nominated Mitt Romney. Obama has early double digit advantages against Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, and Sarah Palin in the state but has just a single point edge over Romney....

...Independents in the state may like Obama but they like Romney even more, giving him a 58/28 favorability rating. That's quite a contrast to how they feel about other the leading Republican contenders in the state. Huckabee's favorability with them is 38/50, Palin's is 28/61, and Gingrich actually occupies the basement in this state at 26/65.
Favorable/Unfavorable/Not sure:

Mitt Romney 47/37/16
Sarah Palin 36/58/7
Mike Huckabee 43/39/18
Newt Gingrich 35/51/15

Head-To-Head (Obama/Candidate/Undecided):

Mitt Romney 47/46/7 (-1)
Sarah Palin 52/39/9 (-13)
Mike Huckabee 51/41/8 (-10)
Newt Gingrich 51/40/9 (-11)
PPP surveyed 932 Nevada voters from January 3rd to 5th. The survey’s margin of error is +/-3.2%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce additional error that is more difficult to quantify.

This poll, as well as other head-to-head state match ups, show why Palin and Huck as well, would have serious trouble in the general.

Nevada is one of the states we need to turn back from Blue to Red. Romney offers the best shot at doing that and it still won't be easy.

"Nevada is one of the states we need to turn back from Blue to Red." While Nevada would be nice to have, the reality is that it is not needed per se.

Both sides are going to have a challenging time to get to 270 Electoral Votes. To dismiss Nevada is short sighted.

Besides it's one of the states some Palin supporters are counting on for her strategy.

I did not dismiss it, but it is not the end of the world if we lose it. For starters, Ohio, Florida, NC, Indiana and Omaha are more important. Beyond that VA, CO, NH, PA, Iowa MN and WI are at least as important as Neveda. What is really short sighted is to put all eggs in the Nevada Michigan basket.

I agree with Ohio Joe.

Newt could still turn this thing around. He may start a "Great American Gaming" awards, honoring conservatives in the casino industry, for the low low price of only five thousand dollars per certificate.

GetReal,

For an extra $5,000, he'll throw in an open-buffet at a Las Vegas casino of your choice. Tip not included.

Doug is correct.

Nevada is important in the General. We don't have the luxury to pick and chose. We need someone who can hold on to RED states, win purple states, and make in roads in blue states.

If there is someone better set up to do this than Romney, I sure as heck don't know who that is.

Are far as I'm concerned, In a general election, trying to win all states is important.

It's funny how Palin supporters only feel the states she does well in are important.

Last count, that wasn't to many.
