NRC Survey IOWA: Huckabee and Romney top picks

Neighborhood Research Corporation conducted a poll January 3-8 of Republican Primary voters. Huckabee topped the survey with Romney close behind. Romney also had some very interesting results.

...........Among the candidates, Romney converts a higher percentage of his favorables into votes than any other candidate (42 percent) followed by Huckabee at 36 percent, Palin and Pawlenty at 24 percent, Pence at 20 percent, Gingrich at 16 percent, Paul at 13 percent, Cain at 9 percent, Bachmann at 8 percent, Thune at 5 percent, Santorum at 4 percent and Barbour at 3 percent.

When it comes to first and second choices, Romney converts 56 percent
of his favorables followed by Huckabee at 51 percent, Palin at 46 percent, Pawlenty at 37 percent, Gingrich at 36 percent, Pence at 33 percent, Thune at 28 percent, Cain at 22 percent, Paul at 21 percent, Bachmann at 19 percent, Barbour at 16 percent and Santorum at 9 percent.

Looking at first, second or third choice, Romney gets 64 percent of
his favorables, Huckabee 60 percent, Palin 53 percent, Pawlenty 52 percent, Gingrich 48 percent, Pence 43 percent, Thune 33 percent, Bachmann 29 percent, Paul 28 percent, Cain 26 percent, Barbour 22 percent and Santorum 14 percent.............
Neighborhood Research completed 556 surveys of Republican Primary voters who voted in the 2010 Republican Primary and who said their chances of participating in the 2012 caucus were “very likely” or “definite.” The theoretical margin of error is 4.1% in 95% of cases.

It looks like the results show that there is only a 1 point difference between Huck and Mitt among those who actually vote.

Has anyone else picked up on this?

If this is true, Huck is in trouble in Iowa as to coming in 1st.

This poll can't be right or accurate. Romney is supposed to be toast in Iowa and everywhere else due to Health Care, etc.

(I jest of course)

Isn't it delicious when Romney does better than expected in Iowa? Ha ha.

ANALYSIS - (from the poll link)

"The field is wide open. Right now, a quarter of voters are undecided
and that number beats any other candidate. Huckabee and Romney are
clearly the top two contenders and Romney, despite being in second,
has a more motivated voter and ultimately would probably edge out
Huckabee if the caucus were today with Palin a strong third."

Hey Guess Who - How do like those apples?

I don't think he will, but if Huck lost Iowa, it would be over for him.

With Definite Attendees, Huck and Romney get only 1/5th each, with 1/4th undecided.

It's all about turnout. Clearly to Huck's advantage to find the fire of 2008 that turned out 50% more evangelicals than in previous elections.

OTOH, if that vote is relatively unengaged because there is no urgent focus, or because the driving issues are not social, the advantage slips away.

But with so many undecideds, it is really still very much up in the air.

When any contender in reality becomes more of a threat to the Left and their media, they will get the ‘Palin treatment’ too. Then we’ll see if they can handle it and what it does to their poll numbers. We can argue that a candidate will be able to handle the attacks, but Palin is the only one who has shown us she can.

Might as well stay with the proven one.

Proven? What has she proven? That when the going gets tough, she'll resign?

"Proven? What has she proven? That when the going gets tough, she'll resign?" And you'd rather the Left bankrupt Alaska? Next....

The 5 point lead by the Huckster is nothing.

As long as all 12 candidates above run.
