Is a "Draft Jim DeMint" movement good for Mitt Romney?

altI came across this new website today, Draft Jim DeMint.

Hmmm! That would change things in 2012. Especially in South Carolina and the south. If this were to become a reality (I think it will), I wonder who it would affect the most? Mitt Romney? Sarah Palin? Mike Huckabee? Newt Gingrich?

Here is the Intro on their homepage:

In just about 14 days our country will take a decided turn, and the direction will depend upon you all. I know many of you have been working double, triple or even quadruple duty for local and state campaigns (and even some Draft Jim DeMint ground work), and I’m confident all of the hard work will soon pay off.
We here at Draft Jim DeMint will be working without stop these next two weeks to ensure conservative candidates cross the finish line first on November 2nd. So, for the next two weeks we would like to ask all of our grassroots supporters to focus on local and statewide races. If you’re in an area with a strong conservative candidate and things are looking good, then please call a neighboring campaign or a statewide campaign to see how you can help. There are a number of critical races throughout the country where victory or defeat could rest upon your shoulders.
Thank you again for your support and action, and good luck to all of you and your candidates.

Draft Jim DeMint

Currently, Jim DeMint is very popular with the Tea Party, Evangelicals, Southern Conservatives, and the far right. My own opinion is this. As a Mitt Romney supporter, I'D WELCOME a Jim Demint candidacy. I could see him winning South Carolina and being very a formidable candidate in a few other southern states. Back on May 31, a PPP poll had DeMint well ahead in SC when he was included on the list of 2012 possible candidates:

alt
Jim DeMint back in 2007, was Chief Advisor of Mitt Romney's 2008 Exploritory Committee. He was a major supporter of Romney when he was just beginning to make a name for himself.

Here is a sample of DeMint's views on Mitt Romney:

Some will argue with those last 2 videos that, that was then and this is now. My response is, What would Romney have done since 2008 that would change DeMint's feelings towards him? Write a roadmap to bring the country back? Work tirelessly to win the House and Senate back? Call for the repeal of Obamacare?
Add to that the fact that Romney and DeMint are good friends and that when asked who he believes would make a good President, as recently as September 16, guess who was the first name off his lips?

Look at 7:20 minute mark:

Romney / DeMint in 2012!

I like Jim DeMint. I never realized that he and Romney were so close.

It appears that Romney endorsed DeMint for his re-election and fund raised for him this time around as well.

I think that would be a dream ticket.

Bos knows where I stand on this.

Those that know people who believe DeMint is anti-Romney, should bookmark this post and show it to people. They are good friends and are both working hard for the American people.

I was a bit surprised some months ago when I found out DeMint and Romney were buddies. DeMint’s outspoken TPM approach seemed more in line with Palin, to me. I thought he and Palin would be naturally drawn to each other. Shows to go ya.

I wouldn't be surprised if DeMint endorsed Romney again, but he'll be under tremendous pressure to steer clear this time. In 2008, he was "the conservative in the race." The field will be much stronger in '12.

I like Jim DeMint a lot. I would rather him not run, just drop hints for a while without actually endorsing Mitt, then endorse about mid year next year and campaign for him thereafter. If we can get Nikki to support him also,Mitt will do great in SC.

Bill,

You're not alone on this. I think most people don't know about DeMint and Romney's close relationship.

Both men have a great work ethic.

Jim DeMint is middle man between Romney and the Tea Party, the South, and evangelicals.
