Russia and Ukraine launch drone attacks targeting Russian air base, Black Sea coast:
Russia and Ukraine reportedly launched mass drone attacks at each other’s territories for a second straight day Sunday, one of which apparently targeted a Russian military airport.
At least 35 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight over three regions in southwestern Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a post on the messaging app Telegram.
A Russian air base hosting bomber aircraft used in the war in Ukraine was among the targets, according to a Russian Telegram channel critical of the Kremlin.
The channel posted short videos of drones flying over low-rise housing in what it claimed was the Russian town of Morozovsk, whose air base is home to Russia’s 559th Bomber Aviation Regiment.
Vasily Golubev, the governor of Russia’s Rostov province, separately reported “mass drone strikes” near Morozovsk and another town farther west, but didn’t mention the air base.
Golubev said most the drones were shot down and and there were no casualties. He didn’t comment on damage.
As of Sunday evening, Kyiv didn’t formally acknowledge or claim responsibility for the drone attacks.
A major Ukrainian newspaper, Ukrainska Pravda, cited an anonymous source in the security services as saying that Ukraine’s army and intelligence services successfully struck the Morozovsk air base, inflicting “significant damage” to military equipment.
It wasn’t immediately possible to verify this claim.
Also Sunday morning, Ukraine’s air force said it shot down 20 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched overnight by Russian troops in southern and western Ukraine, as well as one X-59 cruise missile launched from the country’s occupied south.
A civilian was killed overnight near Odesa, a key port on Ukraine’s southern Black Sea coast, after the remnants of a destroyed drone fell on his house, Ukraine’s military said. --->READ MORE HERE
War update: Russians conduct unsuccessful assaults in six sectors:
Fifty-four combat engagements have occurred on the front between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian troops in the past 24 hours.
The relevant statement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces are holding positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region and continue inflicting fire damage on Russian occupiers.
Over the past day, Ukraine’s Air Force has launched strikes on one Russian personnel, ammunition and military equipment cluster, and two surface-to-air missile systems. The air defense units destroyed seven Russian Shahed-136/131 loitering munitions.
Ukrainian missile units hit four enemy personnel, ammunition and military equipment clusters, one artillery system, and one ammunition depot.
Meanwhile, Russian troops launched two missile strikes and 25 air strikes, and opened fire with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) 25 times on Ukrainian positions and settlements.
Following Russian terrorist attacks, casualties among civilians were reported, as well as the damage caused to residential houses and other civil infrastructure.
The operational situation is remaining challenging in eastern and southern Ukraine, according to the General Staff.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remained rather unchanged. No enemy offensive groupings were detected. Certain Belarusian units are completing tasks within the areas bordering with Ukraine.
In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, Russian invaders are maintaining military presence within the border areas, conducting sabotage activities and shelling border settlements from Russia’s territory. Over 20 settlements were affected by Russian artillery and mortar strikes in the Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions. --->READ MORE HERE
