The Glass-Steagall-Trump-Clinton Act

The Republican and Democratic Party platforms don’t agree on much, so what does it mean that this year they both call for reinstating the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933? It means that as both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton pursue Bernie Sanders voters, they can be equally irrelevant to our current financial era.
On Monday night Mr. Sanders celebrated an endorsement in the Democratic Party platform for reinstating Glass-Steagall, which had been one of his campaign themes. This followed last week’s last-minute addition of a similar plank into the Republican platform. The GOP move was hailed by Mr. Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort, who probably maneuvered it to appeal to the Sanders voters who Mr. Trump is courting.
