The spending blitz is a final push targeting voters in Southern states where Cruz has his best chance to unseat Donald Trump, the GOP front-runner.
Keep the Promise, the collective and individual name of several groups backing Cruz, have put nearly $400,000 on radio ads in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
It has put another $990,000 on initial television ads in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Oklahoma starting Saturday through Tuesday, when those states hold voting.
