Scott Brown forms an Exploratory Committee for a U.S. Senate Bid in New Hampshire

After a year of flirtations, coy poses and even a shirtless plunge into frigid waters for a charitable cause, Scott Brown, the former senator from Massachusetts, took his biggest step yet on Friday toward a campaign for the Senate from New Hampshire.
“I am announcing that I have formed an exploratory committee to prepare a campaign for the United States Senate,” he told a gathering here of grass-roots Republican activists and elected officials from across the country in a mobbed hotel ballroom at the Northeast Republican Leadership Conference.
Mr. Brown said he planned a listening tour starting Saturday morning to speak with people “of every background, Republicans, independents and Democrats alike,” as he prepared for what he called “a very big decision,” which is whether to challenge Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
Ms. Shaheen, a freshman Democrat seeking re-election, is a popular former governor but is perceived as vulnerable because of her strong support for President Obama’s health care law.
In signs that his listening tour is mere prologue to a full-fledged campaign, Mr. Brown, who has also been toying with running for president, canceled a trip to Iowa. Fox News, where he has been a commentator, canceled his contract on Friday once he notified the network of his plans. And friends of Mr. Brown’s on Capitol Hill have said he told them he was going to run, according to people with direct knowledge of those conversations.
