Who Would Have Thought? Cruz´s "Strategy" Did Not Work

Or did he?

If we were to take the literal words that came of the literal mouth of the Texan Senator, then, no, the Cruz approach to holding hostage the government over Obamacare did not work. Who have thought that a majority of Democrats Senators wouldn´t want to overturn their party´s most important piece of legislation in the past 20 years? Did not see that coming!

But we shouldn´t take literally the words that come out of Cruz´s mouth. His goal was never to stop Obamacare. The man is a Harvard law graduate who, according to a roommate, refused to study with anyone who wasn´t a graduate of an ivy league school. He is no doubt a smart man and he knows what he is doing. Cruz has endeared himself to the grassroots. He was in a win-win situation with his government shutdown ploy. The grassroots were going to love him for "fighting" no matter what devasting consequences resulted from his actions. Cruz now owns a large portion of the GOP base, which is not good news from Paul or Rubio, or any other Republican who cares to win. Cruz will have large rowdy townhall meetings filled with adoring fans, he will have no shortage of cash from the grassroots (perhaps not so much from big donors, but too early to tell), and he gets hours and hours of free ad time from talk radio and the blogosphere as they gush over Cruz´s "tenacity."

So, yes, Cruz accomplished exactly what he set out to accomplish. He advanced his career, even if he created a strong ceiling over his head through which he will never pass. And I mean, never.

With that circus show ending, here´s to hoping that Republicans don´t help Cruz´s career so more by using our nation´s debt ceiling as a hostage in order to defund Obamacare. Shutting down the government is one thing. Costing the United States billions of dollars just because you want to look good in the eyes of Limbaugh´s listerners is flat out immoral.

Pablo, are you aware that the source from the GQ article who said Cruz wouldn't study with anyone from a non-Ivy League school is a disbarred convict?

I also understand Mitt Romney once pinned a boy down and shaved his head because he looked gay.

Aside from your shoddy sourcing, we'll find out in the long run whether his strategy has an impact. It all depends on the GOP leadership. Many of them might not be around in a couple years. I hope they are, because that would mean they finally grew a spine.

I think Pablo is right about Cruz motives, especially after reading the transcript of Rush and Cruz. And, I actually think Cruz thinks his adoring fans are stupid.

RW, the studying story doesn't matter, true or not.

Agreed that the studying story doesn´t matter. I shouldn´t have included it.

RW, one question for you: What would have to happen for you to believe that Cruz´strategy didn´t work? What would failure look like to you?

Yet another example of Pablo being a defeatists before a vote has even been taken. If Mr. Cruz' talk did work, why is Mr. Manchin backtracking on mandates now.

BTW, any useless effort by Mr. Reid to strip defunding from the original bill is DOA in the House.

Inhofe just told Hannity that they had the votes if the Republicans would have stood together. It would have worked. He also stated that they wouldn't be talking about delaying it for a year if it had not been for Cruz. There will be other long term benefits as well, as long as the GOP leadership grows a spine, and starts standing up to the Democrap Party, but you and I are on such opposite ends of the political spectrum, I'm not even going to waste my time typing it out.

The vote on cloture didn't happen yet. Cruz' plan is still on track except it seems that Republican Senators want to hand over victory to the Democrats.

The point of voting no on cloture?

There is no point.

"The point of voting no on cloture?" You missed the point Martha. ObamaCare is Dead On Arival in the House. Quit playing games by trying to put ObamaCare funding back in the bill. The American people will not stand for the useless effort of Pablo and Mr. McCain trying to fund ObamaCare. Give it up, or get a plan.
