Walmart Walkout Scheduled for Today

Walmart associates in 15 cities will walk off the job Thursday in the latest in a series of actions against the nonunion retail giant organized by the United Food and Commercial Workers union through the activist group it backs, OUR Walmart.
The group claimed that "thousands" would walk out.
"Walmart workers and their supporters today announced the largest mobilization since Black Friday, set for Thursday, September 5. The announcement comes as Walmart has failed to meet a Labor Day deadline to reinstate illegally fired and disciplined workers, publicly commit to improve jobs and end the company’s aggressive violations of workers’ rights," OUR Walmart said.
According to the news release, walkouts are planned by employees at stores in Baton Rogue, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York City, Orlando, Sacramento, Seattle and San Francisco.
Read the rest HERE.

Do you notice that none of these people planning on walking out are talking about receiving excellent reviews/evaluations and not receiving raises accordingly.

NAH...these folks all think they deserve more pay and benefits because they've..put their time in. That's the latest craze. They feel they deserve more money because THEY'RE THERE and not for a job well done.

I hope Walton fires their collective ass.

If they walk out....FIRE THEM!

That would be my call too, Bosman. There are others waiting in the wings to take their places at a job with a paycheck. The Unions have been after Walmart forever. They are ticked because this very large company is non-union, and provides jobs at a pay that the economy will support. I say, walk off, then don't come back. Ellie.

Yes, let the employers- whom make a mint- do all they can to deny the hard working employees who make the company tick a liveable wage.

Yes, fire them and put a big sign out that says HIRING.

I agree. Who the heck do front line employees, doing the graft, think they are asking for a liveable wage. It's ridiculous.
It's almost as if they don't like being exploited.

I would never speak I'll will on someone trying to better their lives Trying To get a fair living wage, shame on a selfish a-hole that probably go to worship twice a week but forgets the lessons taught everytimeevery time they leave the building.

Perception is obviously everything here. Why are they demanding fired workers and disciplined workers be rehired? If you do a bad job, you deserve to lose it. Employers do not exist to employ people, they expect their people to do good work. If the employees don't do a good job, the employers do not have to keep them on. Unions are one of the main reasons teachers who are convicted child molesters continue to receive money and bennies even while incarcerated. That is the real injustice; not firing workers who won't do their jobs. Why don't we ever hear RM speak up on that?

"If you do a bad job, you deserve to lose it."

And if you do a good job, you'd expect a living wage for it.

"Employers do not exist to employ people"

Kind of a contradiction of terms, but if they do decide to put a job up for application, you'd expect they'd offer a liveable wage for it.

"If the employees don't do a good job, the employers do not have to keep them on. "

True. But if they do adhere to the job description, you'd expect them earn a liveable wage for it.

But of course, who are employees, often working long hours in not the 'best' jobs to expect a liveable wage. They are clearly asking to much.

Romneyman. Each time I negotiate a contract for myself, I have the option of either accepting the offer, or not accepting it. There are times when we cannot reach an agreement on what the job is worth, and we shake hands and part with no ill feelings. There are other times I agree to their counter offers, and times when they accept mine. If these workers agreed to the wage Walmart was paying, then it's not Walmart's fault. That's what the job pays, and if they don't like it, they don't have to work there. Ellie.

You still didn't agree that the unions demanding that fired and disciplined workers be rehired is wrong, RM. People who lose their jobs often do not deserve them back. Can you agree to that? Unions sometimes/often make unreasonable demands that can drive employers out of business if they are crazy enough to agree to them. Hostess being a case in point.

Living wage is a relative term. People who have no skills and are just learning how to to do the job are often paid the lowest for a reason. Not everyone will have, nor do they necessarily deserve a living wage, even if we could really establish what a living wage is. It would obviously be different for different areas of the country.

lol, so as they are 'just learning how to do the job', and unskilled they are deemed not worthy enough for a wage to be able to actually live on.

lol the *employers* prob don't bother with Maslow's hierarchy of needs or Maio's motivational theorem

Thank goodness you don't own a business, RM. You'd go broke.

"Thank goodness you don't own a business, RM. You'd go broke."

That's irrespective as I don't.

However, once upon a time I used to work in one of those riff raff dregs of society unskilled jobs/people you are disgusted by place.

However, the boss UNDERSTOOD that to have motivated staff and good camaraderie it was essential not to exploit them, one aspect of which included paying them (us, when I worked there) a living wage.

lol, despite not 'going broke' the place is still going, 15 or so years on since I was there, and, from what I can see, still doing good business-----with lots of staff.

Never mind, you keep hating 'unskilled' scum.

RM, I protest your misrepresentation of me and of my comments. You are quite wrong about my "hatred for 'unskilled scum.'" I don't think you come onto this forum to converse; merely to feel superior to everyone else who somehow lacks your wonderful benevolence with others' money. You should read Nancy French's article, "Liberals think good thoughts;Conservatives do good things." You know nothing about me, but you are prepared to dismiss me because I don't agree with your big gov't agenda. I don't and I never will. I believe people need to be free to make choices, and they will have to take the responsibility for their choices, even if it is a dead end job. It might be just the kick in the butt someone needs to make something of themselves. If they are coddled, they may not be motivated to become better, and that's a sad thing indeed. Wasted potential.
