LA Times: Sarah Palin For President in '16

From the LA Times, no less, although Charlotte Allen also writes for several conservative publications, including The Weekly Standard.

Allen lays out a compelling case here. I agree, it's worth a shot. Either that, or we could just keep nominating Romney until he wins....

Yes, I realize this post is complete troll bait. Have at it.
The Republican Party has been doing a lot of hand-wringing and finger-pointing since the presidential election. Half the conservative columnists and bloggers say the GOP lost because it overemphasized social issues such as abortion and gay marriage. The other half says the party didn’t emphasize them enough. And everyone denounces Project ORCA, the campaign’s attempt to turn out voters via technology. But I’ve got a suggestion for cutting short the GOP angst: Sarah Palin for president in 2016….
...In 2008, Palin, running as my party’s vice presidential candidate, was widely supposed to have cost John McCain the election. But that wasn’t so. A national exit poll conducted by CNN asked voters whether Palin was a factor in their voting. Of those who said yes, 56% voted for McCain versus 43% for Barack Obama. Furthermore, Mitt Romney, the GOP’s anointed contender this year, got almost a million fewer votes than McCain did in 2008. (Meanwhile, President Obama, although winning reelection, lost far more voters than the Republicans, with nearly 7 million fewer voters checking his name on their ballots than did in 2008). Millions of Americans didn’t much care for Obama and his Obamacare spending blowout, but they didn’t feel like voting for Romney either. Some said that Romney didn’t resonate with recession-hit blue-collar folks in swing states because he “looked like the boss who outsourced their jobs,” as one blog commenter quipped…
...The Democrats understood how to reach that constituency. When a barrage of Obama campaign TV ads told them that the GOP wanted to take away their contraceptives or that Bain Capital killed someone’s wife, they took notice. When Obama strolled the hurricane-stricken beaches of New Jersey in his bomber jacket, they were snowed. As Malor put it, Obama won on “binders, Big Bird, birth control and blame Bush.” Palin can more than keep up with the Democrats in appealing to voters’ emotions. Hardly anyone could be more blue collar than Palin, out on the fishing boat with her hunky blue-collar husband, Todd. Palin is “View”-ready, she’s “Ellen”-ready, she’s Kelly-and-Michael-ready…
...Palin’s son Track is an Iraq war veteran, so she can be proudly patriotic without being labeled another George W. Bush, looking to do aggressive nation-building. She seems aware there is only one nation in need of building right now: America…
....She’s tough as nails too. After Election 2008, she was supposed to have been through. This year eight of the 14 GOP candidates Palin endorsed for Congress won election or reelection, including tea party favorite Ted Cruz for a Senate seat in Texas....
....Some Republicans will say Palin has too much baggage from 2008, and we need to look for a new Sarah Palin. But I don’t see what’s wrong with the one we’ve got. Ever since the 1990s, Republicans have been looking for the next Ronald Reagan. Reagan is now revered in bipartisan circles, but during his presidency he was, like Palin, ridiculed by liberals. They cited “Bedtime for Bonzo” and sneered at his no-name college degree. Sarah Palin is the new Ronald Reagan: charming and affable and unwilling to back down if she’s right. I can’t see what’s wrong with that.
You can read it all here

What did I tell you about this being "troll bait?" Didn't take long for one to scurry out from under a rock! Ellie, is that you?

Joel,

Didn't think so, but like I said, we could just run Romney until he wins. Somehow, I think you'd go for that idea.

Ohio JOE said...

As a Palinite, I would certainly support her if she run. However, unfortunately, it is probably best that she does not run. The Romneyites and Huckabeeites hate her, so realistically, we need to get past the divisions and camps of the past. I do hope that whoever runs, will promote Palinistic ideas and policies. I am not hopeful at the federal level and I almost do not care anymore. I will work like all get out to support my Governor in two years so at least we can have Palinism, capitalism and Conservatism on the state level, but it is doubtful that we will have such things on the federal level anytime soon.

Right Wingnut said...

OJ,

That may be true on a few of the Internet forums that you frequent, but I don't think that's true as a whole.

Remember, Palinistas despise Romney for the most part, yet almost all of us showed up to the polls and held our collective noses on Election Day. Again, I'm talking about the most active Palinistas.....the ones who reside at C4P.

Right Wingnut said...

The people who didn't show up to the polls are the "low information," or "couch voters," as Lionhead put it, not people who are active in politics and internet forums. This election wasn't lost due to people on our side having an axe to grind. That theory really needs to be put to rest.

Anonymous said...

RW, I like Palin as I've stated before. She could very well be part of the "make over" of the GOP. Fresh face not in the DIMWIT crowd, with a new message, and she can resonate that message with the "couch or low info" voters. I hope she considers running in '16 and I hope the US hasn't turned into a totalitarian state by that time to allow her to throw her hat into the ring.

If she does, she has to go all the way, and play to WIN!

Right Wingnut said...

LH,

She may be as close as we have to a Libertarian in the Republican Party, other than the two Pauls. I'm speaking only of those with broad appeal, of course.

Because palin demonstrated her anti-capitalism and divisive childish antics this year, i hope EVERYONE will quickly and permanently dump the barracuda stupidity into the past where it belongs.

the same people who come here attacking conservatives for their religion fail to be consistent when it comes to palin. look at her. she wears her CROSS on her sleeve, so to speak. her pious nonsense is repulsive to MOST. if you have a good idea, support it.

However, this disgraceful idiot pretended to put her family first, but demonstrated hypocrisy when she pushed bristol into the limelight at a very difficult time, subjecting bristol and the republican party to highly public ridicule.

if palin is so conservative and pro family, who made her support The Third Wave commie newt and his washington style mistresses, womanizing and immorality.

please don't crusade for flamboyant mommy bear. this imbecile has already been roundly rejected. we need a big tent, and she isn't it.

Joel2012 said...

No, we had our chance to elect Romney, but we blew it! It'll sit on the sidelines for at least two years and then we'll see where we are then. One can only hope we have better options than this by then!

Right Wingnut said...

Baked Alaska,

Apparently, they didn't want her help. How'd did that work out?

Despite all of that, she promoted the ticket every chance she got on her Fox segments.

In addition, she's one of few prominent Republicans who hasn't taken a shot at Mitt since the election. Many of his so called supporters in the party are now trying to drop kick him into obscurity. His does that make you MittWits feel?

You have to give us a reason to hang around.

A resident Romney basher posting negative Romney posts one after the other, is not the way to do it.

Give the critical Romney posts a rest and start bashing Obama and post positive articles for posbible 2016 candidates. Not just Palin.

Stop filling that woman's head with delusions of grandeur. I wouldn't vote for her if she was the only person on the ballot.

Do you know when she 'endorsed' Mitt Romney? The day before the election.

Ask her to go finish being Governor of Alaska. If people who liked Palin can stay home and be brats, don't expect me to grow up in time to vote for her.

cimbri said...

Ohio Joe, Sarah Palin ran a months long guerilla war against Romney, and depressed his turnout. You don't really expect his supporters jump to support her? her showing up on the back of a Harley in NH the day Mitt announced. And yet she never ran. Why?

I will, as always, vote for the nominee, even if it is Palin, although I would prefer Romney run as an Independent, in which case I would vote for him. I know it's not going to happen, but I would support him if he did.

I don't think Palin has the balls to run or she would have run this year. All of her supporters were breathlessly waiting for her run and it didn't happen.

Thanks for the article, RW, always entertaining.

Right Wingnut said...

Just a reminder to the cocky Romney supporters. .....

You're candidate lost the election! You would never know reading some of these comments.

Thanks for the four more years of Obama.! Permanent ObamaCare, 2-3 more SC nominees, more executive orders, etc.

Thanks guys! Happy now?

Pam said...

This has got to be a joke! With all due respect to Mrs. Palin, this is the same woman that when things got too difficult for her, she quit her job as governor of Alaska! Also, she has no experience in foreign policy, and when she is asked the really tough questions, she doesn't know how to answer them.

There were a lot of people making comments about her in the voting line 4 years ago when some members of my family went to vote early and the comments were NOT kind. I don't think Palin or any woman can win the white house. If America didn't want Hillary then they certainly don't want Sarah Palin.

I do agree that the far right did hurt us this election cycle especially during the primary campaigns. They all bellyached and complained they didn't get a conservative enough candidate and then some didn't even bother to turn up and vote and so honestly, I'm sick of the pointing fingers about what went wrong. The only person who I think has done a good job addressing this issue so far has been Mike Huckabee. People need to listen to what he's been saying. He's telling the truth! We have ignored, the blacks, Hispanics, and the young people!

btw, I don't appreciate seeing Romney supporters being called cocky. Some may be but not all of them. Some of the far right in our party should have gotten off of their duffs with the rest and banded together to help save this country and voted because now they have no right to complain if they didn't vote and frankly I don't want to hear what they have to say if they didn't participate in the process!

Right Wingnut said...

Oh look! Another sore loser!

I voted for Romney, but because I didn't support him in the primary, I can look at things objectively. Do you think Romney did anything wrong, or is it the fault of everyone else?

Mittwits who continue to manufacture excuses conveniently forget that 4-5 million people who were willing to vote for a ticket with Palin on it were not willing to get their ass of the couch to vote for Romney. All along we were told we had to support Romney, because he was "electable." What a joke. Not only did give 4 more years to the worst president in history, but we lost seats in the Senate and House. In other words, the man had no "coattails" either. He couldn't even get Mia Love over the hump in freaking Utah. How pathetic is that? Don't even get me started on the MA Senate race.

cimbri said...

RW, you guys wouldn't get behind the nominee until it was too late, period. So while Palin was suggesting brokered conventions and the social cons were keeping Santorum in the race, Obama's UNIFIED party was running non-stop ads about Bain Capital. They knew, and I knew, who the nominee was going to be. But unfortunately, some real idiots in our party didn't know who the nominee was going to be. You need a long lead time to challenge an incumbent. I hope the next time around, whether it's Rubio or Ryan, we wrap it up quickly. Palin is a non-starter and the people pushing her, are only accomplishing one thing, dividing the right, and making it easy for Hillary to win.

Right Wingnut said...

Yes, Cimbri....I know you guys would have preferred a coronation, but it has never worked that way. Primary voters get to decide. Every cycle has people who hang on until the last possible moment. Sometimes the nominee wins anyway! Yes, it's true! Lets face it. Your guy was a flop. Perhaps that's why a Palin was open to a brokered convention at one point.

Katrina L. Lantz said...

I like the first idea of running Romney until he wins. Seriously, Reagan ran 3 times before he won. Romney's only run twice.

No matter what, we're not going to win another presidential election until we can clamp down on all the fraud. Opening the polls for a straight month is not the answer. Voting Day holiday is way overdue. Let everybody vote on one day, nobody has to work, and nobody has an excuse for not getting there.

Right Wingnut said...

Katrina,

The same slugs would still stay home. There's no excuse considering the availability of absentee and early voting. People still need to make the effort. Having said that, the candidate needs to get their base to the polls.

I would think Mitt's 1.1 Billion should have been enough. McCain was limited to $66 million, yet got more votes? And, that was when Obama was running on Hopenchange and no record. Someone needs to explain the math to me, because it just does not add up.

Right Wingnut said...

I'm sorry....McCain actually had $84 million to use for the general election campaign.

MrX said...

Too many whiners in the GOP. People who wouldn't vote for Palin show exactly why Romney lost. The party is not unified. Just because someone wants to run, people take fit? C'mon. Let her run if she wants. If she wins the nomination, then good for her. If not, then that's that.

I'd be open to Sarah in 2016...I am determined not to get emotionally invested in any candidate heading into the next Primary however. I loved Romney a lot, and the pummeling Romney is taking on the right was expected...but still disapointing.

Romney lost for a myriad of reasons, some were under his control, but many were not. We'll never have a nominee with such a wide range of succeses that spanned so many different fields that Romney brought to the table. He just never had the ability to connect on an emotional level...Sarah does. I think she'd have a tough time getting through a primary with Rubio and Christie in the mix. 2012 was the time for her if she wanted to become a nominee because the party wanted ABR. Charisma and emotional connections will be available in 2016 and Sarah won't have the sole market on those attributes.

I look forward to the Palin pumping RW...who knows, if she impresses me enough, you and I just may end up being on the same team next time.

I really do not see how anyone, who is not a Democrat can win the presidential race. The reason being is that the majority of the electorate are low information voters, who are easily enticed to vote for the Democrats due to freebies and Media hype. The Democrats own the media message from Hollywood to main stream media networks as well as social networks like Facebook.

The media was in lock step with Obama's weekly talking points. When you have a debate moderator like Crowley running block and tackle for the president regarding an important topic like Libya..it is quite obvious that the media will control the agenda.

I would just like to know how the media owners benefit from an Obama presidency?

In 2008, Obama had "Hope & Change", in 2012, he had the power of incumbency.

In my book, that's a wash. Obama was just as tough an opponent in 2012 as he was in 2008.

A loss is a loss, but at least Romney made the popular vote A LOT CLOSER than it was 4 years ago.

ABR(Anybody But Romney) supporters on CP4, Red State & elsewhere can insist till they're blue in the face that they voted for Romney on November 6th, but sorry, I'm just not buying it.

No self-respecting Republican is going to publicly say "Screw Romney & the GOP, I'm staying home on November 6th because my preferred candidate ain't the party's nominee."

Of course they won't say that, because they know they'll be called sore losers, blamed for the defeat if Romney loses, and then have the favor returned in 2016 if their preferred candidate wins the nomination.

Let's face it folks, during the primaries Romney was viciously & continuously demonized by Limbaugh, Levin, Beck, Ingraham, and others on Talk Radio.

I've been following presidential primaries for decades, and I've never seen anything even close to what Romney had to endure during this primary cycle.

Prior GOP nominees McCain, Bush 43, Dole, Bush 41 and Reagan were the media's toast-of-the-town during the primaries compared to the treatment Romney received in 2012.

The 3 million-plus Republicans who stayed home on November 6th were NOT low information voters who get their political news from the MSM, because MSM viewers/listeners are predominantly Democrats & Independents, NOT Republicans.

In all probability, the 3 million-plus Republicans who stayed home on November 6th were simply angry, bitter and sadly misinformed ABR supporters who cut off their noses to spite their faces on November 6th.

I whole heartedly disagree, NH.

Everyone I know who dislikes Romney voted for him anyway. I had an anti-Romney blog, and still voted for him.

Not all Republicans have cable or satellite TV. Many are dirt poor. Many are just too busy or too lazy to follow the campaign other than what they get from soundbites. Many just don't vote regularly. I don't know how you can deny that fact.

Over the past few 6-8 months, being too critical of Romney would have gotten you banned at Redstate. I got accused of being a Kos troll last April. The nomination wasn't even official yet. I had to leave, because I would have been banned otherwise.

This is for all the Romneybot Bootlickers and Fanbois, whose candidate would have trouble beating Hitler for Mr. Congeniality. How dare you idiotard numbskulls come here and diss on Palin, especially after the ditch into which you've driven the Party?

Palin offered to help Romney and his team before the Convention and during the fall. It was firmly rebuffed by Romney's Bushtard staff. Palin does not go where she is not wanted.

It is typical of the Loser Romney Campaign that they blame Romney's loss on Palin, and not on themselves.

Weak Sauce is as Weak Sauce does.

Not only that, Governor Marmalarde's brilliant staff told Palin's downticket clients, good candidates like Cruz and Fischer, to keep their distance from Palin if they knew what was good for them.

Meanwhile, at the Convention, the resident geniuses of the Bushtard Party told the Ronulans to Sit Down and Shut Up. They did. Then they went out and voted for Gary Johnson.

You Rombots can't be tarred, feathered, and run out of the GOP fast enough, along with your Bushite Junta friends. Down to Paraguay you go, where you can worship at the tomb of the Late Alberto Stroessner, and bitch at the Hoi Polloi for daring to state the Govenor Watercress Sandwich would get his a$$ whipped by Obama.

Which is something Palin warned about when she came out for Newt back in January, but the Romney crowd wouldn't listen. They had the Unbeatable Candidate!

Yup! Exiling Sarah Palin from the Party sure was a smart thing to do!

Section9's barely coherent, juvenile, unhinged, hate-filled rant proves my point about ABR/Palin supporters - never in a million years would some of them vote for Romney in a general election, no matter how bad his Democrat opponent was.

Palin bashed & trashed Romney throughout the entire primary process, but he was nonetheless gracious enough to offer her a prime-time speaking role at the GOP convention.

But Palin TURNED IT DOWN because it wasn't prime-time enough to her liking, thus proving beyond a shadow of a doubt what most observers already knew - that she is a jealous, self-obsessed, egotistical, media whore who couldn't care less about the future of the GOP, except for using it as a tool to advance her own celebrity status.

And that's putting it mildly. Next time I may not be so polite about Ms. Palin.

"Playing nice"??? You've been bashing Romney and his supporters non-stop since election day. What goes around comes around.

I never guaranteed during the primaries that Romney would defeat Obama, just that he was the GOP's best option, which he was. Santrum, Gingrich, Cain or Perry would've been slaughtered by Obama even worse than McCain-Palin were 4 years ago.

And who could possibly have predicted Hurricane Sandy and the Obama-Christie love-fest?

You're kidding yourself if you don't think that swung the election in Obama's favor. All the exit polls show that it did.

Limbaugh's support of Romney during the fall campaign was too little, too late. The damage he inflicted on Romney during the primaries was irreparable.

Right Wingnut said...

Priebus is lying. He was being put on the spot by Levin (who is a huge Palin supporter). He made a calculation here, and concluded that Palin wouldn't call him out on his lie the eve of the convention.

Priebus stated that she had commitments in Alaska? She made it very clear not long before that, that she planned on attending, and that she BLOCKED HER SCHEDULE OFF for that entire week to attend.

Her brother, Chuck Jr. comments at C4P occasionally, and said that she wasn't invited.

Priebus is a liar.

cimbri said...

Paul said...

Now that I am going to respond, it is rather long. Please forgive me. The Palin dreamers are incredibly thick headed to be exulting, "now that Romney has been proven to be unelectable....." Excuse me? When Romney was running ahead of BO, both during the primary, and in the final three weeks, and just, only just, lost within the margin of error by which democrats cheated, Palinists have the audacity to ludicrously propose that Ms Barracuda would have, or would do, better? LOL! How quickly they have forgotten why she did not run in the first place. I'll remind them: Polls of registered Republicans back then, repeatedly resulted in a majority response that she should not run, or that the majority preferred that she not run for the party nomination. It is thusly more than apparent to every one that thinks, that Sarah chose not to run because she lacked the needed support. It should not be necessary to (but I will) also remind Palin fans of her abysmally low approval ratings among the polls of the general public, both before and after her dead line for filing of her candidacy. And also, all of the Big Tent Republicans will remember that this little barracuda in a big pond tried to, and to some extent did, spoil their Big Tent, by playing both rolls of Sniper and Crab. Why would she do that? Because, in a very un-presidential way she followed her feelings. she was jealous and resentful that a majority of that Big Tent would not split off with her, even though she never did file! The most she could do to titilate was to collect donations, and then, late in the game, to let out hints that she might just bust the party at an open covention that she hoped to help bring about! These flaky acts of indecision only added to that reputation that followed her gubernatorial resignation. Finally, Palin remains unpopular, and unelectable. There is, among the general public, a visceral, negative reaction to her, and Republicans do not want her as their symbolic figure. She has made her bed... It's not a very pretty one... Ergo, she now must sleep in it.

Paul said...

correction: roles of sniper and crab

Right Wingnut said...

Paul,

It's time to come to grips.

You touted Romney as electable. So did most of your pals. He lost. There really isn't much more to say.

Paul said...

Come to grips with this, WRNut. Palin is not the next in line, just because Romney lost, and especially not because of how Romney lost. She does not have the resume or the abilities of Mitt Romney and never will. She did not before, and does not now have what it takes to gather half of the Republican support that Romney had, and she has even less approval from the general public, when Romney at least made it neck and neck in the final, and actually won when fraud is taken into account. But you don't care about such things; you are simply an ABR hater. Come to grips with it: Sarah is not viable. She missed a chance to build a resume or a platform to run by hanging back, sniping, while real candidates beat each other up. then dug herself deeper with those that might have supported her when she dropped hints that she would just waltz in unscathed at the end to pick up the nomination in a brokered convention that she hoped to bring about by her divisiveness. There are several possible future candidates out there that are viable, including Ryan, Portman, McConnel, Ayotte, Rubio, etc. And then there are un-viable ones like Gingrich, Santorum, Christie, Perry, and unfortunately, at the bottom of the un-viable list is Palin. You're going to have to come to grips with this eventually. It is simply incredible that you could imagine Palin out-performing Romney, with the current state of the Nation favoring a fiscally expert doer like Romney, and not favoring a do-nothing-but-preen, unfiltered conservative talker like Sarah Palin. So, come to grips with it, and move on, cause it ain't happening. I won't have to say any more, except "I told you so," as it happens.

Paul said...

...as it happens that Palin is left behind, and forgotten.

Anonymous said...
