Mitt Romney continued to take flak from Democrats over the weekend for not mentioning war in his nomination acceptance speech.
But the Republican campaign was quick to point out what critics seemed to be ignoring – Romney spent the day before his convention speech visiting the American Legion conference in Indianapolis, where he talked exclusively about national security and America’s veterans. President Obama, by contrast, addressed that conference in the form of a three-minute video aired at the conference site.

Though Romney did not mention the war in Afghanistan on Thursday night, he focused on that issue, as well as the veterans who are returning home, in his American Legion speech.
“We are still at war in Afghanistan. We still have uniformed men and women in conflict, risking their lives just as you once did,” Romney said.
Romney went on to accuse the president of giving the cold shoulder to America’s closest allies and allowing rogue actors to exploit the U.S.

As a veteran myself, I was glad that Romney took the time away from his RNC preparation to make a special visit to the American Legion Conference in Indiana. His remarks there were directly to and for veterans and much better than any sound bite that his RNC speech might have provided. If you missed that speech, I have it for you HERE. I personally thought it was one of his best and it is well worth viewing.
It's obvious that Team Obama has been reading the recent poll numbers regarding veteran's support of Romney. Why else would they make such a BOGUS CLAIM?

I also saw the president's attempt to pull the wool over troops eyes in Ft. Bliss. Didn't work though.
I spent 21 years in the USAF as a Russian/Farsi linguist and traveled all over the world. What is happening in this country is what I saw in all the European countries I visited, and middle eastern ones also. I feel this is a slap in the face to all of our armed forces. He is trying to do to our country what we protected it FROM for all those years.
I watched the American Legion Speech and got teary eyed several times. I'm married to a retired (30 yrs) Marine and our daughter is in the Air Force; our oldest son is applying for an Marine officer program. We need a president who understands that National Defense is one of the primary functions of the federal government. Romney is that man!
