How Is Mitt Going To Turn This Around?

Somebody tweeted about two months ago that the day Mitt Romney clinches the nomination is the day the you never hear the words "illegal immigration" come out of his mouth again. The hope, from serious Republicans as well as Mitt, was that the former Massachusetts governor would wrap things up quickly. He did not and was forced to use immigration as a weapons against his opponents.

Now the result of all that hard work.

Latino Fox News Poll

President Obama 70%
Mitt Romney       14%

For those of you who think that Mitt Romney is a giant flip flopper, you haven't seen nothing yet. Romney is nothing if he is not empirically driven. He understands the demographic trends as much as the next guy. Romney's future flop on immigration is going to be a thing of beauty.

The reason why I consistently criticize the GOP these days is because I long for a credible conservative movement that is reform-minded. However, there will be NO CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT AT ALL if Republicans as a whole do not flip flop on immigration. You may not like that, but you have got to play the cards you were dealt.

Democrats want the Latino vote, while Republicans are content to maintain the Rush Limbaugh vote. That is no future.

Most latinos come to America for better jobs and a better life. Once the real presidential race begins these numbers will change dramatically. All legals will vote for more jobs and the VP could possibly be someone who speaks to many latinos as well. If the latino vote comes down to who will hand out the most benefits than Romney will have to win another way.

Pablo, maybe it is not all about Romney, maybe it is about the Latinos too...why do they consistently support the sort of people they do? And I am not talking about the Rush Limbaugh vote either, not every Republican is like Rush..in fact to hear him tell it most of them are not enough like him.

So, rather than always wondering what Romney or some other Republican can do to "turn this around"...perhaps you should ask yourself why 70% of hispanics vote like they were the Borg.

Maybe if he offered to put a dog on the roof of every low rider.

Romney will flip-flop on illegal immigration???

He stuck to his guns on illegal immigration as governor of Massachusetts, where the voters are far more pro-amnesty & pro-illegal immigration than the rest of the nation.

80% of all Americans - Democrats & Republicans - want the borders secured and oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Of the 20% who don't, the vast majority are dyed-in-the-wool Democrats, regardless of this issue.

Pablo, you can dream all you want about Romney flip-flopping on illegal immigration, but it ain't gonna happen.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

If we continue to take care of other nations' citizens and let them bankrupt our communities and states, we won't have a nation. We also won't have a vote. Whites are limiting their families because they can't afford to care for them and the new arrivals are not because our tax dollars pay for their WIC & Welfare not to mention healthcare. They are taking over our culture, language and effecting our futures.

We have the right as a nation to decide who comes in. It should not be mostly free loaders, sick, criminals, needy and uneducated that we allow to enter and then vote in our elections. We have educated people in many countries patiently waiting in line to join our melting pot NOT ask for a chicken in their pot.

Facts are stubborn things. You may be pro invasion of other countries' citizens into America but most Americans that have been here for generations and thought this issue was settled when we fought a war that we won and purchased the south west fair and square, agree with me. We can't absorb anymore illegals right now until the border is under control.

I think these polls aren't attributed to Romney's position on illegal immigration. I think Romney's negatives are due to the fact that all media sources including FOX,Obama,DNC,unions,GOP party are ripping on Romney.

These numbers will change once Romney becomes the nominee(hopefully sooner than later) and Romney will not change his position on securing the borders.

Lori, do you even know that illegal immigration is down right now?

Do you even know that the only reason we have a sustainable birth rate right now is because of illegals having babies?

Pablo is right. The GOP needs to solve illegal immigration, not just bash illegals 24/7.

Pablo, I agree with you that Romney doesn't care much about it, and he's just saying what he needs to to win. I don't think he's lying, I simply think he just doesn't care about it all that much.

However, I do think it's possible that Mitt can come up with a solution that works for everyone, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he does.
