Rick Santorum and his GERMAN LOVE

Rick Santorum preaches Made in America, but, according to his tax returns, he was driving a German-made luxury car just a few years back.

Santorum, now vying with Mitt Romney for frontrunner status nationwide and leading in the race to win the Feb. 28 Republican presidential primary in Michigan, has made American manufacturing a major theme of his campaign. He has called for tax breaks for U.S. manufacturers and one section of his campaign website is called “Made in America: Empowering American Families, Building Economic Freedom.”

But his 2008 tax return, released along with three other years Wednesday night, showed he was started driving an Audi A6 that year as part of his consulting business, putting nearly 12,000 miles on the car. He claimed $241 in depreciation on his assets that year. The website Politico posted the tax returns Wednesday evening.

The Audi A6, manufactured in Germany, listed for $42,950 in 2008.

At the risk of sounding class-warfarish, that car is worth as much as I made in 2008.

While Rick talks American, Mitt walks american...

The car is probably worth at least what I made, but he has a right to buy what he wants with his money. While I buy American cars, I believe people should be free to buy what they want. The Swedes, Germans and Japanese also make good cars.

OJ,

You're missing the point. Santorum is in MI telling them how wonderful their American products and pushing, "Made In America"

Ohio JOE said...

Yes Kim, their products are wonderful, but others can produce wonderful products as well. This is the beauty of the Free Market.

OJ,

Once again, the media builds up a perception and the reality is different.

Romney is built up as this phony who can't relate to Americans and Santorum as a regular guy who can understand the struggles of the middle class.

The reality is that Romney drives American cars and gives a full tithe and then some to charity. Santorum drives foreign cars and is stingy with his lobbyist money--donates 2% and talks up his hard core Catholism.

The reality is right in front for people who are willing to see it. Otherwise, some people just WANT to be fooled with the red meat Santorm throws around.

I drive American, too, I drive Toyota (or I used to). But I digress.

I heard recently that the Gov't Motors bailout destroyed the Saturn car company. /me sad :'(

Ohio Joe...oh please. Mitt Romney has the right to get rich and be a Mormon too, however, there are people who feel the need to make an issue of it.

The point is the hypocricy. I am not surprised it went right over your head.

Mr. Santorum is not for the people. He worked big Coal company. He partnered with Wlmart to limit minimum wage increases.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BgQOHKYeeo&context=C3fcdc47ADOEgsToPDskJu21-gQGvizlEOJEPRfRj3

I admit I drive foreign cars because I feel they offer a better product but I am also not out on the stump touting the 'Made In America' mantra like he is. I feel it is an issue that needs to be addressed by him as it goes beyond simply dismissing it as a matter of choice. I guess in some ways everything is about choice, such as it is by choice he has chosen not to give generously of his wealth to charity, right?
