Question/Debate of the Day: Why is Ricky Falling Behind Obama?

Here is the Question of the Day....ah but first some background to frame it....

According to today's Rassmussen Daily Presidential tracking poll, GOP Presidential contender Rick Santorum, who was leading President Obama last week by one point, now trails him by 4. That is is significant 5 point swing....in th wrong direction.

Even more concerning is this comes after Santorum's 3 state primary sweep on Tuesday and the positve media afterglow. It also comes amidst the most controversial social issue to beset the Obama Administration to date: the controversy over Catholic hospitals being forced to provide birth control against their religious teachings, an issue tailor made for the staunch social conservative.

The poll also found GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney falling back 10 points behind Obama, a drop we understand. Romney is being pummeled daily by the concerted efforts of the DNC, GOP rivals, the Left Wing Media and Talk Radio Truth Twisters.

So my question goes out to all the new found Santorum Apostles (btw, where were you when he was at 1%?)......

What's St. Rick's excuse?

in 2000 Alan Keyes and Gary Bauer got combined 23% of the caucus votes, in 1988 Pat Robertson got 25%, so there is lots of votes going to the “evangelical leader” type of candidates. If we look at the 4 recent Iowa winners, we can put them mainly on two categories. Large margin victories by “evangelical leader” candidate, or small margin victories by the “next in line”. Huckabee was of the first type, Santorum is of the first type, GWB was kinda combo of the both types, and Dole was and Romney almost was of the last category. Actually Dole didn’t have an “evangelical style” leader, who had actually ever won any elective office as opponent, only Alan Keyes, so we could deduce that if there is a good, somewhat qualified, “evangelical style” candidate, he should take Iowa rather easily.

A person who manages to get the “identity politics” edge, to claim the position of “evangelical leader” in Iowa caucuses, if that person has required political and communication skills, and charisma to be a good presidential nominee, that candidate will totally crush the competition in Iowa, like Huckabee and GWB did. Santorum didn’t, he got almost exactly the same as Pat Robertson did (24.56% vs 24.5%)...

So he is going down because he is pretty bad candidate, not happy enough warrior, even when the MSM is giving him a free ride and right wing media is giving him a boost, he still goes down.

He did not stay up there long..they all get a shot at beating Obama in a Rasmussen poll, but it usually lasts longer. Cain even bested Obama in a couple of polls.

I think that the truth is the longer this primary goes on the more people don't like the GOP..and we can thank people like Sarah Palin who desperately wanted "more vetting" for that state of affairs..

Terrye said...

When I say vetting..I mean they wanted Romney vetted and smacked around and lied about..they wanted everyone else to get a free ride..

What a dumb post...especially considering your guy is trailing by 10 in the same poll. For starters, Obama has a 51% approval rating in this poll. Santorum holding Obama to 46% is rather impressive.

Better luck next time....

Only "dumb" because you don't like the question and obviusly the potential answers.

BTW, I acknoweldged Romney's drop.

So let's get back to business...

Why the drop during a "good week"?

Dismissing a post or comment as "dumb" or "stupid" only detracts from your argument. If you have a counterpoint try expressing your opinion using persuasive debate and logic. Monikers like "dumb" should be left to the democrats who don't like facts or logic. We're the smart ones remember? We're Republicans.

Right Wingnut said...

Actually, Publis, there's no argument to be made here. Doug already lost when he posted this, because he can't argue that Romney is more electable than Santorum given the supporting data. Mitt can no longer base his candidacy on electability.

"Doug already lost when he posted this, because he can't argue that Romney is more electable than Santorum given the supporting data." Haha, but Mr. Obama wins in a landslide against Mr. Santorum, but Mr. Romney loses by only 10 points. Now that is an exciting nail-biting contest.

Why is it dumb? I think it is a good question.

You just want to think that this means Santorum is home free and that remains to be seen.

He is just the latest in a long line of people who have managed to get to this place and it looks like he might already be falling back.

That is the point. You can deal with it or call people dumb when the raise the issue. whichever.

"You just want to think that this means Santorum is home free" Nobody is home free.

RW- I am having a difficult time believing that you are a Republican who lives in the state of MN. You must really love the Obamacare entitlement program and his redistribution of wealth plan.

I just met with my financial planner and we were discussing the caucus results, and we both were like who are these people who voting to give Obama 4 more years??

Santorum stands zero chance of winning in the state of MN. I would even say that the GOP shouldn't even waste money campaigning in MN, if Santorum is the nominee...It would be a complete waste of money. There would be a greater probability of the pope converting to Islam than Santorum winning in the state of Minnesota.

By the way Romney's negatives are high because over 70+% of the MSM and FOX news are reporting negative stories on Romney as well as the DNC,GOP rivals, hysterical evangelicals and Right wing radio talk show pundits. Romney is getting beat up from all sides.

The reason might be that Santorum is finally getting attention from the news media o voters are seeing how unlikable both he and his ideas are.

RWN,

2+2=4...sound familiar.

Try just a little bit harder to follow along....

Nowhere in this post did I mention ELECTABILITY or made a case for Romney to be more so than Santorum.

Where you are getting that from is anyone's guess. Most likely those strange voices only you can hear inside that confused head of yours.

The question quite simply is...

Why would Santorum's numbers in a head to head with Obmama, go DOWN during what is a very positive week for him?

Now, can you handle answering that simple question or do you need to be excused from class?

Nice post Doug!

Doug, I already told you. It's the same reason why Mitt is now losing by TEN instead of four. Obama has a 51% approval rating from this sample. It doesn't take a rocket scientist.

Right Wingnut said...

You'll also find when you head over to your second favorite site, that Santorum is doing better against Obama in Florida.

Arlen Specter said...

I think his numbers went down because the voters haven't learned the true story of former Senator Rick Santorum.

He was a good Senator for Pennsylvania. He got us loads of goodies during his tenure in Washington.

Also, what other Republican running has a close relationship with unions. Only Rick does.

When this all is learned by the public, Rick's poll numbers will show movement.

Terrye said...

RWN:

So what? Give it three weeks and see where it is then.

Terrye said...

We do not even have to wait three weeks. A new Fox poll out today and according to the poll Ob ama is at 47 and Romney is at 42..Obama is at 50 and Santorum is at 38.

And this is Fox..not WaPo or PPP.

RWN your name says it all. No real conservative would call themselves that. It is the typical smear name for a conservative that Leftists use. You just got roasted pretty dark here.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for enlightening the discussion, Arlen. The polls ought to show quite the specter when the public hears how santorum gave you political support instead of the conservative candidate he could have chosen. Now sant is not able to claim to act on principle rather than by politics. Too bad for Rick people have time to find out something about him. We have many rights and amendments. Being right on one does NOT allow you to trample over the others.

Anonymous said...

He's not able to claim to act only on principle, but he keeps on doing that fraudulently.

Ohio JOE said...

Ah yes anon. Thanks for reminding us that Mr. Romney supported Mr. Specter a few times.
