Mrs. Palin’s decision is understandable, but I disagree with it.

I was among those who were not happy the other when my camp leader gave a quasi- endorsement to Mr. Gingrich. My first choice would have been for her to stay out of it and let the people decide individually for themselves, but if she felt that she had to endorse, I would have liked her to choose somebody further to the Right of Mr. Gingrich. Nevertheless, there are plenty of reasons for why she did what she did.

A week or two ago, it looked as if Mr. Santorum would be (could be) the one to give Mr. Romney a run for his money. But, it the tide did not turn before, this week’s debate made it clear that unfortunately, Mr. Gingrich became the leading non-Romney candidate if you will. Mrs. Palin simply followed the old strategy of voting for the least evil or choosing the most Conservative person that has a chance of winning. Personally, I tend to believe that Mr. Gingrich is worse than Mr. Romney and let’s just say I am far from convinced that Mr. Gingrich is more Conservative than Mr. Romney. However, unfortunately, she is probably correct that Mr. Gingrich has a better chance of being the leader of the non-Romney camp than Mr. Santorum. The sad reality is that although Mr. Santorum is not Right Wing enough for some of us, he is too Conservative for the average person who is part of the current GOP universe. To add to that equation, Mr. Santorum is not a native son of the South like Mr. Gingrich so there is another disadvantage. To top it off, while Mr. Santorum had a decent performance during the debate, Mr. Gingrich hit the ball out of the park thereby making Mr. Santorum all, but toast with or without a Palin or any other endorsement. This morning a local politician told me that he was surprise that both Mr. Perry and Mrs. Palin endorsed Mr. Gingrich, but he said that it was probably due to Mr. Romney terrible debate night. He went on to say that Mr. Romney preformed much better on Thursday and showed that the previous debate was just a bad day for him.

My local radio hostess (a Santorumite) was upset at first with Mrs. Palin, said this morning that it was a good move because Mr. Gingrich is the only person that can change the dynamics of the race at least enough to stall Mr. Romney’s coronation and give us a chance to further vet the candidates. Mr. Romney’s poor performance was enough to frighten Republicans like Mrs. Palin into wondering whether he has what it take to win in the general. In short, Mr. Romney needs a chance to improve his game. Some say that Mrs. Palin should have endorsed Mr. Romney in order to brown nose for a cabinet post. Even if she wants a cabinet position, it is doubtful, she’d get one because there is so much distain for Mrs. Palin in the Romney camp that she has nothing to lose by opposing him.

In some regards, Mrs. Palin is better than many of us because she can forgive Mr, Gingrich’ NY-23 antic. She can forgive him on behalf of herself, but she has no right to forgive him on behalf of the people. Perhaps she admires the fact that Mr. Gingrich at least made a choice even though it was the wrong one. Mr. Romney voted present during NY-23. He could not outright support Queen Dede for fear of offending the more reasonable members of his camp and he could not oppose the TARP Babe for fear of pissing off the extreme Pro-TARP wing of his camp. This helps to illustrate the outright hostility that many in the Romney camp have for monetarism. In any event, Mr. Palin had various reasons why she did what she did.

While some feel that it is time to choose the lesser of the two evils, I say no. both candidates are weak damaged and flawed for different reasons and I see no reason to take sides in this pissing contest. Both have been less than honest towards each other and other candidates. I might support one of the two later on, but it is far to early to throw in the towel and surrender to one of these two like a certain small businessman from down state Illinois. Mr. Santorum might have no chance of being the nominee or even doing well, but he is the best of the bunch so I have decided to his a small donation to one of his PACs. At this time, I shall not give more money to SarahPAC.

I disagree with each of her reasons for supporting Mr. Gingrich. I realize that forgiveness is the right and moral thing to do, but I cannot find it in my heart to forgive Mr. Gingrich for his NY-23 antics. If one wants to be forgiven, one must essentially say he is sorry and one must change his ways. I do not recall Mr. Gingrich expressing any regret for the damage he helped cause to the moral fabric of our society and I see no indication that he will change his ways. Many people are concerned about Mr. Gingrich’ sexual past. I do not condone the monkey business that may or may not have gone, but it is not my place to judge him per se on such monkey business and shenanigans. However, if one wants to use sexual related language, I am pissed off at Mr. Gingrich for raping the people. Despite becoming a quasi-member of the establishment myself, I still am at heart of the people and I cannot forgive Mr. Gingrich for what he has done. While I do not regret immigrating to the best country in the world because of what Mr. Gingrich has done a very small part of me asks myself ‘I came to America for the same crap on a different channel?’ I am even a little less proud to be a resident of Ohio because Mr. Gingrich has given political cover to those lackeys in my state capital that would turn us into a banana republic. While I do not intend to leave this great country apart from a few vacations, every July the 4th since NY-23 has not been quite as special as the good old days prior to NY-23 and Mr. Gingrich helping to destroy the moral fabric of our country.

I still am a proud Palinite and ideologically, I shall continue to believe in Palinism, but I am sad that she endorsed a guy has brought discontentment in the land and has insulted the people. Mr. Gingrich may be a great charismatic debater who can talk a good Conservative game, but I cannot bring myself to trust him. He insulted the people and he gave political cover to those who would pull such shenanigans. Perhaps I should forgive him, but I cannot tolerate such disgraceful antics.

OJ, you're missing a very important point. Gingrich has always been respectful and complimentary of Palin. Romney, through his advisors and surrogates, has not. I'm certain there are things she's aware of from the 2008 campaign that will never be available for public consumption. Several McCain staffers from '08 who have worked for her PAC have filled in some of the blanks for her. I suspect that weighs heavier on her mind than NY 23.

RightWingNut...I see, so as long as he sucks up to Sarah he can be a back stabbing hypocrite and all is well.

And btw, after Romney pulled out of the last campaign in 2008 he campaigned with Sarah Palin for the McCain/Palin ticket. He gave of his time and resources to do that.

She is just angling for time now..maybe a brokered convention, {so says Joe Scarborough} or maybe a nice high paying government position..or maybe she is just trying to stay relevant.

But Gingrich is still the man who kited checks and got kicked out of his job as Speaker, he is still the hypocrite who screams at reporters rather than answering questions and he is still the guy that the majority of Americans have said they will never vote for..

Palin is looking out for herself..plain and simple.

Terrye, bullshit. As soon as it was clear that the race was lost, Romney's hacks set out to cut her off at the knees to help clear the way for his run in 2012. Even Kevin Madden went on TV and bashed her, while whining that McCain didn't pick Romney. This was PRIOR to the election

Bull shit back to you.. Romney might have wanted the VP slot...so what...he still campaigned for her....and her she is shilling for a guy who is a poster child for all the things she claimed to stand against.

I used to like Palin. I was glad when McCain picked her..but over time I have lost faith in her and I have grown tired of the incessant whining and complaining of her people who refuse to see her for the publicity hound she has become.

I mean come on...Newt Gingrich is a crook..He is a liar...he is a womanizer...and here Palin is sucking up to him.

Go get 'em Terrye. I also really liked Palin when she was chosen for VP. In 2009 she was my second choice. But her own bad actions, and they are legion, have totally turned me off to her.

Proper vetting? Really? Here it was Rick Perry complaining that Romney has been running for the past 5 years. Is that not a vetting enough?

We know Gingrich's sins of the distant past and recent past. Was it not just this year that he sat on the couch with Pelosi and advocated for Cap and Trade? Sure he apologized for that. What about calling Paul Ryan's plan "Right Wing Social Engineering?" He's not apologized for that, that I've heard. In fact, they don't even bring that up.

Newt has been on an apology tour quite a bit during the late days of Nov and most of Dec.

I was ticked off to no end that McCain won the primary last go around. Sarah Palin made a McCain vote palatable for me. But while Romney was preparing himself for a 2nd run by assisting other candidates (and learning the ropes in each state), Palin was creating TV shows, speaking on Fox News and doing some campaigning with Republican Candidates. A different style for sure. It might have worked for Palin, but she showed through many of her actions that she is building the brand of Sarah Palin, not necessarily building the Presidential Sarah Palin.

Well hell, if she can not go with Romney, there is always Santorum..at least he is a decent human being...and she had no problem endorsing Christine O'Donnell who was never going to win..so why not go with Santorum or just leave it alone?

No..Sarah is looking after number one right now.

RW-

McCain lost the election because he did not select Romney. Were you out of the country in the Fall of 2008? Do you remember the financial collapse? Wouldn't it have been great if McCain could have had Mr. Economics Romney as his V. P. verses Debbie does Alaska as his V.P..

That told me everything about McCain as a leader. McCain was too insecure to have a strong V.P..

I supported Palin in the past but her antics and gamesmanship during this most critical election is unforgivable.

You either fully endorse or you don't endorse. None of this, oh I think it would be great if we could extend the nomination process so we can beat up our candidates as much as possible,as well as spend more money,so we won't have that much money to go up against Obama!!!!!

I guess Palin is just like those other right wing hacks who want 4 more years of Obama to keep their ratings up and the money flowing into their bank accounts and funds like SarahPAC.

"Do you remember the financial collapse?" Yes, which was in part due to TARP. TARP was not only supported by Mr. Romney, he championed it. This kind of poor judgement does not help the economy.

OJ, what is Palinism? It's pretty clearly nothing more that Palin self-interest. Cashing in, and sacrificing the principles you said you stood for. It's also rank hypocrisy.

Palin supported TARP.

Ohio Joe,

Palin did support tarp as well as everyone else with the exception of Neil Cavuto. Santorum says he did not support Tarp but he was not in office and I do not recall seeing any press releases or video showing him fighting against Tarp. Perry tried to say he opposed Tarp but there was evicence found where he did support Tarp.

Anonymous said...

Actually Bachmann...the true Tea Party candidate, that is a million times more principled in her views than Palin, did not support Tarp.

Anonymous said...

I supported TARP, and I'm glad Romney did. I've yet to see it proven that it did not prevent complete financial collapse.

Martha

To be completely honest, I am against the government bailing out companies but I am not sure about Tarp..I guess that is why, I don't have a strong view one way or another on Tarp.

I do know that Bachmann was vocally opposed to Tarp just as she was opposed to raising the debt ceiling this past summer.

Ohio JOE said...

"Palin did support tarp" Yes, that was one of her biggest political mistakes. At least she did not outright promote it like Mr. Romney.

"I've yet to see it proven that it did not prevent complete financial collapse." We are on the verge of collapse as it is. That is in part due to a lack of consumer confidence caused in part by TARP itself.

Ohio JOE said...

"It's pretty clearly nothing more that Palin self-interest." Truly, you are not that ignorant, Martha?

Terrye said...

Ohio Joe...TARP was not responsible for the collapse, you have it backwards and I don't care what any of these blowhards say there is no President or Congress that would sit back and watch the financial sector collapse and if they did..people would not be thanking them for it..now that does not mean that I like everything about TARP, but the money loaned out by Bush has already been paid back and over all the Treasury will turn a profit on TARP.

Anonymous said...

Any president who would have sat back and done nothing, instead of passing TARP, would have been derelict in their duty and would have betrayed this country.

Anonymous said...

Tarp saved the big financial institutions but left the actual housing crisis (which it was intended to help in the first place) alone. The return on TARP should be expected seeing as who the money was loaned to, but in terms of it being a good idea? It was a plan that deviated from it's own plan...lol

If Sarah Palin was the woman who her supporters claim, she would've picked Santorum.

It is obvious that her pseudo endorsement of Gingrich was just to protect her brand in case he loses.

Ohio JOE said...

"but the money loaned out by Bush has already been paid back and over all the Treasury will turn a profit on TARP." But, consumer confidence was not paid back.

Terrye said...

Ohio Joe, if the system collapsed consumer confidence would not exactly be in great shape.

Terrye said...

Anon...TARP was not intended to undo the damage done by the housing collapse, it was intended to stop a collapse of the system overall.

Anonymous said...

Everyone that had any political clout in 08' supported McCain's stance on TARP...completely disingenuous to pick and choose who truly supported it or not. Palin ran for VP, with Tarp as part of the platform, she certainly didn't go rogue to stick by her true principles. McCain asked Romney to be on his economic team to help give the impression that he could handle the economy...of course he was going to stand by McCain on tarp.

Concerning Palin, her quasi endorsement was beyond the pale for me. I voiced thoughtful acceptance and appreciation for Palin continually, but she trashed her brand for me personally in the last two weeks...I honestly don't know what principles she has anymore. Had she grown a pair and just endorsed Gingrich then I wouldn't have been nearly as bitter. She'll never see a dime from me again or support on any comment thread.

I have lost a lot of respect for Palin and a lot of other people too. I used to listen to Rush from time to time..I can not stand him anymore. I don't watch Fox either..and if Gingrich managed to get the nomination, I don't even know if I could vote for him..In fact, I would probably start calling myself an Independent rather than say I am a Republican with him leading the party. I just do not think I can do that.

In case none of you can tell, Palin is all about Palin, she is looking at a run in 2016 and Romney who many have said has a chance at beating Obama is in her way. She knows Newt cant beat Obama and so she is pushing him, by sending out Todd to endorse in NH, that didnt work so she gave her "endorsement of Newt in SC. She has her sights set on 2016 and a President Romney will make her have to wait till 2020.

I'll tell you what is sad....that there needs to be an "anti-Romney" candidate at all. He's more conservative than you will ever care to admit. Perhaps you are content remaining comfortably ignorant. But every time you or somebody like you spew this ABR garbage, it's nothing short of sanctimonious and condescending, and doesn't speak very highly of who you purport to be.
