Mitt Romney Skipping Another Pro-Life Event

As Romney supporters continue to try and tell us that Mitt Romney truly is Pro-Life, we find yet again that Romney cannot fit it into his campaign schedule to attend a Pro-Life forum. Now I know that the key issues on the campaign trail are the economy and jobs. But if one is truly Pro-Life than prepping for a forum such as the one scheduled for this Saturday January 28th should be a piece of cake. No need to have an all night study session reading through Pro-Life journals or bringing in Michele Bachmann's debate coach to help you frame your answers. Just explain to the voters what you have done to further the Pro-Life cause and what you would do as President to bring about an end to Abortion.

Alas, we will never know what Mitt Romney's answers would have been as he is skipping his third Pro-Life forum of the campaign season. Florida Awake! Presidential Candidate Forum and Audience Q&A will have to do without Mitt. Perhaps he truly is a P-L-I-N-O Pro Life In Name Only.

Texas, how about you direct some of this concern Newt's way? Just a thought.

You are correct in saying the MAIN FOCUS of this debate should be the economy, jobs and the deficit, not to mention the houseing crisis in florida that Newt Gingrich help create by lobbying for Freddie Mac.

You wrote the headline wrong, it should have been:

"Another Right Speak Hack Spews Nonsense About Romney."

How would he be racking up all these pro-life endorsements with simple lip service?

Get over it, bro.

You and your buddies will hate Romney no matter what, and you'll never believe him anyway, so why should he waste precious campaign time on you?

Is it really pro-life or just some more "value voter" hypocrites.

Even listening to a man who sleeps around say he is pro-life is disgusting... Newt Gingrich cannot be pro-life and promote his chosen life-style.

I am sick of the holier than thou hypocrites in the Republican Party.

Those religions tell people to leave common sense and good judgement at home... and vote for a philandering hypocrite!

Pro-life, my eye!

Are these the same folks who put so much emphasis on Family and Conservative values, then support a serial adulterer and Progressive?

Romney got this far WITHOUT THEM. Those in this group who support him now DON'T NEED FURTHER CONVINCING. The rest, can go to..

Gingrich's evangelical support must have tapped into some of these hypocrites secret desire to sleep with their neighbor.

Great post, TC. He obviously hasn't learned his lesson from SC. He still thinks he's in Iowa with 5 other candidates splitting the conservative vote.

You know the right isn't going to win the abortion war with preaching. The right is going to win that war by reaching hearts. A Romney presidency and his close-knit, funtional family will be an image that does more for the pro-life movement than any preaching ever will. (The pro-life movement has definitely failed at providing an alternate image and vision of what life and family life could be.)

I don't blame Romney for not attending. He's said he's pro-life--and the reasons why--till he's blue in the face. People just don't want to believe him. In fact, I think there are people hoping he will attend just to call him flip flopper.

That is silly, though. This is not someone of shady personal character to warrant mistrust, just the opposite.

I believe Romney when he says he's pro-life. There's not reason to believe othersiwe.

On the other hand, I would definitely not believe someone of Newt Gingrich's shady personal character.

I asked someone today who they preferred between Newt or Mitt. He started off by going on and on about Newts indiscretions in his marriages, but concluded that he prefers him to Mitt. He referenced a George Will article (that I haven't read) about how Mitt has the establishment on his side, but not the voters. It's time to face facts. This has nothing to do with Newt, and everything to do with Mitt.

Another guy said he preferred Newt, but he said he's always liked him.

Texas Conservative tells us all that she hasn't committed to a candidate yet.

I guess her non-stop anti-Romney posts (no Gingrich) is helping her to make up her mind?

Sadly, I have to agree. Every forum I've seen him skip have appeared to be traps. Sure, he could go into the lion's den, but why? They wouldn't listen to him anyway. They'd shout him down. Pointless.

@Martha: I think there are plenty of other anti-Newt posters on the site. He certainly has enough to hang himself with. I've noticed just today that the bad new(t)s is flowing freely about him. Lots of smoke. (and some views of fire.)

OK folks, here's a chance to listen to a real-time poll on the GOP candidates in FL on WFLA radio 970. You can listen on the radio for the poll. Let's hear from some real people in real time.

Todd Schnitt Show. Be aware he's a Mitt supporter thru & thru.

Who cares?

But in other news, new CNN poll just came out with ROmney at 36%-Newt at 34%...seems Newt's momentum is cooling off a bit.I guess he does need a debate crowd like Obama needs a teleprompter.

Oh and I talked to 3 people today who were in the waiting room at the dentist's office while CNN was on and 2 of them said they were leaning Romney but not sure yet and 1 was a committed Romney supporter.

Florida is not SC or Iowa...believe it or not, there ARE more important issues going on right now than checking if a candidate is pro life. Romney said he is pro life, end of story.

Machtyn, Yeah, I was just pointing out to Texas that even though she says she's undecided, she's not. She uses these posts as a ruse to keep going on and on about how Mitt needs to earn her vote.

I would think, as a mom, traditional values kind of person, and committed social con, she would be repulsed by Newt, but apparently she's not.

The biggest reason I switched from voting democrat to voting republican was that I finally gave up the idea that one can personally be pro-life but not "impose" that view on others. Once I gave up that argument and stopped trying to be blind to the truth of what abortion is, I voted republican - so this is a big issue for me. In my humble opinion, on this issue, how these candidates have lived their lives speaks louder to me than their words and "positions." Mitt Romney, as governor, actually voted pro-life on, I believe, 3 issues, and in his personal life he counseled someone against abortion (from what I understand). Newt Gingrich ... well his life speaks for itself. Evan Santorum, who is considered pro-life, apparently did not always have that belief/position.

Oh, and I must say, Romney's family says "pro-life" to me, too!

I should have said this earlier, but the problem with these events is that they are sponsored by the very people who are hostile to Romney because he is a Mormon. I believe Steve Deace, the open bigot, was the moderator at the last one. This time it's Matt Stavor, who was quoted as saying he thought the Jeffress introduction for Perry at the Values Voters event was just fine.

Texas knows this. These are her peeps. These events are a trap for Mitt, and the fact that he snubs these sham events pleases me to no end.

Maybe if some of these people would not make a point of calling Mormonism a cult they would be more inclusive.

Needless to say Gingrich will be there will bells on. He would never miss an opportunity to perform.

Anon at 3:39, that remark was completely inappropriate.

I agree with many of the comments here. Most of these "pro-life forums" are, unfortunately, a trap. They are a waste of Mitt--the candidate's--time and resources since many if not most of the people there distrust Mormons more than they do anyone else. Even a twice-divorced, formerly (I hope) adulterous man with a rather checkered career in and around government. Thank goodness the "non-establishment" candidate didn't dirty his little white hands in the private sector, unlike his greatest competitor.

I emphasized "candidate" above, because conducting pro-life forums is certainly not a waste of time, but in a pressure cooker like Florida is right now, a candidate has to go where he is most likely to get votes.

P.S. TC, did you watch the Mary Ann Glendon ad for Mitt. I think you would actually like it.

By virtue of his life Newt Gingrich can go to all the forums he wants but will not convince me he is pro-life... someone who sleeps around needs the option of abortion.

Self-interest... Newt cannot be pro-life he does not live his life in a way that allows that.

Mitt on the other hand is solid... he wasn't always... but that was then, this is now.

I supose you are just going to have to trust him... at least he has a record of keeping his word... unlike Newt.

Mitt is certainly pro-life.

He is not pro-hypocrite however.

The hypocrites can create all the noise they want... it does not change the fact that if they choose Newt they are hypocrites.

Say a young unmarried woman is dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, and she's considering an abortion.

The image of a Romney presidency is more likely to incite thoughts of parent-child love and family bond.

The site of Newt Gingrich will incite thoughts of being dumped for a younger woman and being left behind with a child.

For the young woman, Romney's image is far more likely to invoke the decision for life.
