Newt Nets More Than 60 Georgia Endorsements
More than 60 federal, state and local officials joined Gov. Nathan Deal at the Georgia State Capitol today to endorse former House Speaker and Georgia Congressman Newt Gingrich for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.
At a press conference hosted by Deal at the North Steps of the Capitol, the officials joined business leaders and grassroots supporters to call on Georgians to vote for Gingrich in the upcoming Republican Presidential Preference Primary to be held on “Super Tuesday” – March 6, 2012.

Romney just picked up the coveted Christine O'Donnell endorsement.
Dede is for Newt and he was for her.

More than Newt's home state, Georgia is in the South. He'll get a lot more there too for religious reasons.

Why am I not impressed? Newt's a good ole' Georgia boy. He SHOULD be cleaning up his home state's endorsements. What took them so long? He's been running since May 2011.
Bob Barr is a mighty interesting name on the list. He's a former GOP Congressman, whose claim to fame was his role in Bill Clinton's impeachment trial. But Barr left the GOP some time ago to become a Libertarian. Lots of controversy, married 3x (like Newt), and a proud member of the ACLU.

He's been holding on to these endorsements for a week or so. I suspect many were hesitant to endorse him when he was in the single digits.
Religious reasons?
Newt will get a lot more endorsements in the South because Romney's religion is viewed there with great mistrust.
I also think that the mistrust of Romney's religion has been the invisible deterrant from him gaining full support and having this nomination all sewn up.
Romney's support has remained steady because his resume is too good to be overlooked. However, a lot of those who mistrust his religion keep looking for excuses not to nominate him like Bachman, Perry, Cain, and now Gringrich.
How else can it be explained. Afterall, the ideas guy, Gingrich, and one of his grand ideas, the --national mandate,-- is forgiven and overlooked. The Fannie and Freddie lobbying...voters cover their ears and don't want to hear about Gingrich getting all that money from them. It's like voters say, it was just a momentary lack of judgement on Newt's part and it's not really a biggie. More forgiveness for Newt.
Romney is still asked and grilled about MassCare--for years now. And he still gets the flip-flop label, even though Gingrich is a much, much more serious offender and deserving of the flip-flop label.
Newt's from Georgia. Not like he had to go out of his way to net these.
