Newt Gingrich's Jobs Program

Because the deadline is coming up so quickly, we've got a pretty good budget to work with. We can offer $1 per signature, with a $50 bonus for every 100 signatures (in other words, if you get 100 signatures, you get $150, if you get 300 signatures, you get $450, if you get 1,000 signatures, you get $1,500).

In addition, if you can put together a crew to get signatures, they can get paid the same amount, and you can get a $1,000 bonus for every 2,000 signatures your crew collects.

My daughter was on hand taking pictures as Lt. Gov Bolling delivered Romney's signatures to the Virginia State Board of Elections. They exceeded the 10,000 signature requirement by more than 60%.

Reports are that Newt and Perry are both paying people to gather signatures and are "hoping" to bring in about 12,000, though there is no guarantee they will reach that threshold.

Using temporary paid workers may mean that a larger than normal number of the signatures cannot be validated. On December 31, Romney, and maybe Paul, may be the only names that qualify for the ballot.
