Romney Lies In His First TV Ad

I just want to say that I, Rombot, do openly denounce Mitt Romney for egregiously lying in his first TV ad. Romney quotes Obama as saying, "If we keep talking about the economy, we are going to lose." What Romney left off in the ad was the fact that Obama was quoting John McCain.

Sorry if I offend anyone here, but that is shameful. Yesterday, I denounced Newt Gingrich for being an immoral slime ball. I nicely contrasted him with a guy who I believe isn't. Yes, this is just one dink in Romney's moral armor. It won't change my mind, but it sure is annoying.

And it is the most annoying when you consider that Romney must have consciously edited the clip, knowing full well that he was being deceitful. The statement that Obama made could be said about him. He certainly doesn't want to talk about the economy. But he didn't say that.

Lying is wrong even when our heroes do it.

Anyway, Romney deserves the following video.

There's got to be more to it than just this. Romney's not the kind of guy to make a mistake that's so easily and handily disproven in the era of the Internet.

We'll see what happens.

Right Speak...seems you posted an incomplete, cherry picked, edited video regarding Mitt and Amnesty...are you going to recant your shoddy actions as well??

Pablo, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Right Wingnut are among the greatest liars in the world.

You spoke way to soon. You should have read Mitt's response to the ad when confronted about it before you called him a liar. http://www.foxcarolina.com/story/16111638/gops-romney-defends-ads-use-of-obama-2008-line

Pablo, I agree with you. There's enough dirt on Obama, that he shouldn't have to deceive the electorate in this way.

By the way, I'm interested in your take on the immigration debate that has erupted as a result of last night's debate.

for some reason, romney camp knew what they did and as soon as it was previewed on hannity they also sent out an email explaining why. Im not sure of that reason but it goes something like they were saying obama is now the guy who will not want to talk about the economy.

Anyways i believe every campaign does a little of it here and there. As a matter of fact, Obama camp has a slogan out to get donations saying romney, perry, and gingrich want to start israel aid out at zero dollars. It then calls for donations to save israel from the gop. The lie is that romney never advocated to start israel aid at zero dollars, that was rick perry's idea, and newt gingrich agreed with it.

The problem is they are not really being dishonest about it. Obama was mocking McCain for his inability to run on the economy. Now the tables are turned and Obama can no longer run on the economy.

I agree that it is a subtle dig... and subtlety is lost on a majority of people. If not, then Romney would not be called a flip-flopper.

@right speak. Where did Romney Lie? Obama did say it. Granted Obama was mocking Mccain, but he daid say it. We behaving like wussies. Wait 'till Obama starts his wheeling his billion dollars around. What Romney did will be childs play. Romney drew first blood and they start to whine. They got you to dao exactly what they want. Bash our own.c'mon now!

So, were those McCain's exact words, or was Obama misquoting McCain in this misquote that Romney used to mock Obama for being in the same position he made fun of McCain for? Just curious, since context matters.

Oh come on..this is nothing unusual..why Rush Limbaugh does stuff like this every day.

Romney talked about the ad he said that what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Pablo, we haven't heard from you since it has been made evident that you did not percieve the subtle irony of this add---perhaps having been mislead by democrat spin. It seems that the add was quite clever in returning Obama's previous campaign mockery of McCain back home to Obama now (what goes around, has now come around). Perhaps your new poat requires an addendum, one that includes an apology?

To all,

Get Real raises a good point. Did Obama take McCain's words out of context? I don't know. If that were the case, then I could almost understand this ad. However, even then, I don't think it is right for Romney to like about Obama just because Obama might have lied about McCain. Just because the other side behaves that way, doesn't me that we should.

The add didn’t really lie, it started with text “In October 16th 2008, in New Hampshire Obama promised….” or something like that, and it showed video of that Obama speech several times during the beginning montage, including when the supposed misquote was said, so it made it very clear that the whole Obama speech part of the add was from October 16th 2008, and since no one would say thing like that about their own campaign especially when giving a speech, it was obvious that Obama was attacking McCain, and the add showed how the tables have turned and the same applies to Obama campaign even more.

Now if it was a cut that could be considered a serious statement about yourself or your policy positions, that would be worse, but considering the context I think it was obvious that Obama didn't say that about himself in 2011 or 2010, but of McCain in 2008. They wanted to keep the add in 60 seconds, and including the Obama statement, and to make it even more fair, to correct the Obama statement (he said McCain campaign said, when more accurate would have been unnamed McCain campaign member according to a tabloid said), would have taken a lot of time.

Some thoughts on Romney's side to the ad.

I did request while ordering Romney yard signs.......to PLEASE avoid anything that can be construed to be a distortion of actual words Obama said to avoid such controversaries as now experiencing.

I can't believe that as meticulous as the campaign has been that they intentionally picked a "lie" to put out on an ad. It was not communicated well or clearly in the ad which created the "problem".

Pablo, you have written excellent pieces for Mitt and can appreciate your concern over this.
