Pat Robertson: Considers Mitt Romney "an outstanding Christian"

I found the following article interesting because in an interview with the Associated Press, Robinson said that when it comes to endorsing candidates for President, he's finished:
"I've personally backed off from direct political involvement," Robertson said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press this week. "I've been there, done that. The truth of the matter is politics is not going to change our world. It's really not going to make that much of a difference."
In light of his moving away from trying to influence elections he said of Mitt Romney.
Robertson said he would continue to comment on the news of the day and noted he likes Mitt Romney's politics. He said he considers the Mormon candidate "an outstanding Christian,...."

Thank you for finally acknowledging that Mormons ARE Christians, Pat! I guess 81 years has softened you up a bit; looking forward to meeting your Maker makes you realize that everyone else will, too. And maybe you aren't supposed to judge everyone else.

This is something.

"This is something." Yes it is something that the Romney camp is using religion. I thought they said last time that we should not vote based on religion.

We still say religion should not be considered for a persons eligibility. It is only interesting that Robertson would say a nice thing about a "Mormon".

OJ, many so-called "Christians" continually refuse to allow members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be called "Christian," as well. This is not using religion in politics, it is simply a desire to be permitted to define ourselves and not be defined. Why would you have a problem with that?

OJ,

The Romney Campaign is not using relegion. Robertson made these remarks of his own free will, unsolicited by Romney, to a news organization.

The fact such a prominent Evangelical would make a statement about a previously "unaccceptable" candidate is NEWS.

To try and spin everything or anythin positive regarding Romney is CHURLISH.

(Someone better let Ainsley Earhardt in on this story...http://www.rightspeak.net/2011/07/romney-not-christian-says-fox-friends.html

Well AZ, I am well aware that there is a theological debate as to whether or not Mormons are Christians. Ideally, this debate should be separate from politics, but on the other hand, everything gets inter-twinded with politics.

Yes, on the one hand, it could be argued that a prominant Evangelical saying that Mr. Romney is a Christian is news, on the other hand, it still strikes me as a tad odd that the Romney camp would brag (pardon the term) that Mr. Romney is a Christian. Many Romneyites are the first to jump up and down if it is perceived that Mr. Perry is bragging about being a Christian.

At least today, I will not get dragged into a theological debate, Both Mr. Romney and I are going to have to answer to GOD for our various actions. From what I see, Mr. Romney is by and large a decent GODly man, perhaps more so than either Mr. Perry or I. Further, while I disagree with Mr. Romney on many issues, I have no fear that my religous liberties would be threatened by a President Romney (I do not fear Mr. Perry either in that regard.) However, the bottom line is that I for one am concerned about his policies, not religion. For example, I do not think that mandates are a central tentant to Mormonism. I would be just as upset if a Catholic supported mandates.

In a way, I am a bit upset with the Catholic Bishops for not speaking up against mandate, but since mandates are not a religious issue per se, I guess their hands are tied.

Thank you OJ, I appreciate your clarification. This post by Bosman is not representative of the Romney campaign's reaction to Pat Robertson. I agree that it has very little to do with politics at all, but it is a good news tidbit to those of us who care about this issue.

It isn't possible for Romney or his campaign to "brag" that he is Christian. Mitt Romney cannot even bear witness about Jesus Christ without being criticized by "Christians" that he is trying too hard to be like them. Many of these people are not familiar enough with members of our Church or our doctrine to understand that we also bear witness of Jesus Christ. In fact, the name of the Book of Mormon was changed in the 1980's to THE BOOK OF MORMON, ANOTHER TESTAMENT OF JESUS CHRIST, to help prevent such misunderstandings. Unfortunately, many people will believe only what they choose, *sigh*.

As far as mandates go, I have seen a huge movement for "social justice" in the Catholic Church. Many people seem to love the mandate that no one can be denied health care treatment, no matter what. I wouldn't expect the Catholic Bishops to speak against individual mandates, either.

The former mandate is the one that terrifies me the most. People who are basically healthy choose not to buy health insurance, even though they can afford it, and then when things go wrong, they choose to let combinations of tax payer and deficit funding pay for their very expensive life-saving treatments. That is NOT encouraging personal responsibility, either. I know about this first hand, having family members who self-financed a 6,000 sq. foot home but didn't buy health insurance. Now they have had continual costly health problems, which they are perfectly willing to let everyone else finance.

How can a Mormon be a Christian if he does not believe that Christ was, is, and always has been God, equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit in eternal pre-existence?
