Flashback: Perry Shoves Palin Out Of The Way, Grabs Her Arm

At this RGA press conference immediately following the 2008 election, reporters were promised a 20 minute Q & A session with Governor Palin. Apparently, Rick Perry didn't like Palin getting all of the attention. Less than three minutes after it began, Perry shoved Palin out of the way -- at one point grabbing her arm.

I do believe we are starting to see a pattern here.

Perry does seem to be more physical than he should be.

In this case, Palin was being gracious by stepping back from the podium following some of her answers seemingly to allow others to get the chance to speak. In fact, when Perry grabbed her arm, it was to pull her back to the podium, because someone had another question for her.

Perry needs to get rid of the habit in general. But, I didn't see this episode as particularly negative.

I saw the whole thing at the time. All of those governors on the stage were up there thinking they would answer questions. The reporters were only interested in asking Palin questions. Pissed the other governors off [jealous] especially Perry and Haley Barbour [according to other governors there]. The reporters were focused on Palin because this was her press conference and their first chance to question her. The McCain campaign had forbidden her from interacting with the press [even if they were on the same plane]. Press saw this as their opportunity and jumped on it. To this day, Barbour and Perry resent it; they were to be in the limelight.

Hamaca,

If it had been Pawlenty, Barbour, Huntsman.....or Romney, do you think he would have grabbed them by the arm like that? I don't think so n

RWN--probably not. Are you thinking it's selective?

I don't like Perry, but I agree with Hamaca, it looked to me like he took her arm to direct her back to the podium, not to push her out of the way.

That being said, he also stepped in front of her to invite 1 more question. Maybe if he was running the press conference that's understandable.

Nevertheless, after all is said and done, Perry needs to learn to keep his hands to himself.

I agree with RW, perry has a bullish demeanor about him, if you look closely at the part when perry forces himself in front of the podium, palin seemed very disturbed, shocked and kind of annoyed in her facial expression. He should not be touching or grabbing her arm at all.
