So we would rather that they all be on welfare???

The criticism is not directed towards those working in minimum wage jobs. I've worked in plenty of those, and likely will again. Any honest work is admirable.

The issue, in my opinion, is the following: Is this the type of job we want to base our economic growth on? We need to encourage entrepreneurs, we need to encourage small business to start and to expand, we need a healthy environment for companies to invest and grow. Mitt Romney will do that. See his 7 point plan.

1. The corporate tax rate in the United States should be competitive with the rest of the world. Currently we, along with Japan, have the highest corporate tax rates.

2. Modernize regulations and get rid of the burdensome and overwhelming bureaucracy.

3. Trade policies that are mutually beneficial. Our trading partners should not be the sole beneficiaries of our trade policies. We must also benefit.

4. Energy policies that will establish "energy security" in the United States. We cannot continue to send billions of dollars to other oil producing countries. We need to use our own resources.

5. “The rule of law, to make sure that decisions of government aren’t made on the basis of crony capitalism but instead are based on fairness.”

6. Great schools. Our education is currently in the bottom third in the world. We need to develop our human capital.

7. The government must not spend more than it takes in year after year.

All GOP candidates believe in, and expouse those 7 points on a regualar basis. There's nothing new or original there.

So, we are now turning our noses up at good, honest work if it isn't our idea of glamorous. Is that it?

I know an awful lot of people here in Nevada who would dearly love an opportunity to snag one of these "demeaning" jobs right now. A new shopping mall opened here in Reno last year. If memory serves, there were over 200 applicants for every single job opening.

RW:"All GOP candidates believe in, and expouse those 7 points on a regualar basis."

Really? Care to provide links where Sarah has espoused all seven?

No, this is not meant as a gotcha, or at least not a very big one. I am truly curious to see how she phrases them and in what context.

Noelle said...

If that's true, RW, why are none of the others saying it? I've heard Romney say it a dozen times or so. I haven't heard it from the others.

Ohio JOE said...

With respect Noelle, you hear it from Mr. Romney because you follow him so much that you are bound to hear it sometime. I am wondering why Mr. Romney never implemented those 7 principles while governing MA. At least he did not impliment them as well as most other GOP governors.

Right Wingnut said...

Really? Energy independence, spend less than you take in, great schools, less burdensome regulation, etc.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Romney, but he didn't exactly come up with that on his own. It's boilerplate material.

I'm not going to spend the better time of my day going through all of Palins Facebook notes and speeches to provide you with every instance where these are discussed, but I can assure you that she, and many others say the same things all of the time.

Again, I don't think there's anything wrong with the list, but I find it numerous that his supporters continue to hold it up as evidence that Mitt has better ideas than the others.

Right Wingnut said...

Humorous, not numerous.

iPhone typo.

RW - "I'm not going to spend the better time of my day going through all of Palins Facebook notes and speeches to provide you with every instance where these are discussed". Seems to me that if the info of proof is available, it would be very easy to come by to just Google it.... Shouldn't take the better part of your day.

I think the point is not that these jobs are not necessary or even desired--of course they are. However, they alone are not the basis on which a significant economic recovery can be based. They will not drive a more prosperous middle class with well-paying, high-level corporate and professional jobs that fuel the engine.

hamaca said...

RW is probably right that most or all candidates have mentioned or alluded to most of the seven points at one time or another. I don't know that there is a magic bullet no one has thought of before. It's more about knowing what to do and then being able to actually implement. Mitt is simply packaging the points in a way that will hopefully make sense to people.

Right Wingnut said...

I'm not going to google and paste links with my phone sorry. You can google it if you want. If and when Palin becomes a candidate, I will expect her to provide the info in a centralized place. As of now, we're talking about announced candidate Romney, and he's yet to give me a reason for voting for him.

Ohio JOE said...

"However, they alone are not the basis on which a significant economic recovery can be based. Yes it is true that we need an educated upper middle class. However, young people are not going to get educated if they do not have work (however menial) to help pay for tuition. Were it not for working in agriculture in my teens and a factory in my early and mid 20s, I probably would not have been able to save enough to come to America, buy real estate and get another degree so that I could eventually live a middle class life.

Is such work fun? For the most part, no, but often, people must start there in order to work one's way up.

Really? And non-candidate Palin has?

This ranks as one the dumbest things you have written. You come across as spiteful and truculent.

Romney has given you NO reason to vote for him? Even Palin of whom I don't rank very high, has said things so I could support her.

I'm just going to chalk this up to you waking up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

marK said...

RW,

You were the one that made the claim that "[a]ll GOP candidates believe in, and expouse[sic] those 7 points on a regualar[sic] basis".

That intrigues me. So I asked -- nicely, I thought -- for you to share with us where your favorite candidate has espoused those seven points.

Can you or can you not back up your assertion?

Look, this is not meant primarily as a "gotcha", though I'll admit it is a bit of a one. The big knock against Sarah Palin has always been that she is less than bright, that she is a light-weight, someone not to be taken seriously. Well, I personally get a huge kick out of seeing where maligned people prove their tormentors wrong. So I would dearly love to read where she is just as articulate about the economy as Mitt Romney.

So can you do it? Or were you just trying to tear Mitt down by saying what he is telling people is no biggie?

Ohio JOE said...

"Romney has given you NO reason to vote for him?" Well, apart from the fact that he is not Mr. Gingrich or Mr. Obama, No.

Great Post!

Glad you made it simple and to the point.

Many Republicans support candidates on emotion rather than brain cells and facts.

Right Wingnut said...

Mark, I don't know if you read Palin's writings, or listen to her speeches, but if what your asking me to do is spend the better part of my already busy day digging up info that you know exists, then yes it is a gotcha. It's a gotcha that I dont have time to answer.

Ohio JOE said...

"Many Republicans support candidates on emotion rather than brain cells and facts." Yes, they support free health care for all even though it did not work in Europe and Canada.

Anonymous said...

I'd have t agree with RW on this one (big surprise right?) There is noting new in Romney's 7 points that other Republicans haven't said time and time again..."lesser regulation..." seriously you guys think Romney is the brain child of that one?

Also, all I ever hear is that we should research and read Romney's book and we will learn how great he is, it works both ways...there is plenty of material out there that shows that Palin and every other Republican in the world believes in all 7 of those basic of fiscal conservative notions.

OJ,

Are you taking troll lessons today?

Isn't this post about Perry?

Anonymous said...

Romney's 7 points to enlightenment are fine, but boilerplate. He is right, but short on specifics.

Ohio JOE said...

"Isn't this post about Perry?" Yeah, it was before you guys changed the subject.

My offer to send a copy of No Apology to anyone interested still stands. Romney has researched every issue inside and out, forward and backwards, and formulated EXACTLY what he would like to do, if he is elected.

So, yeah. I doubt anyone has done that as thoroughly as Romney has--up to this point. I know Perry has not. I know Palin has not. I know Bachmann has not. If they had, it would show. And where's the evidence?

Watch the townhall in NH from Monday as soon as Bos gets it up here. It's a perfect example of how well-prepared Romney is as he expounds on his 7 principles, and do it better than anyone can.

Romney deserves the credit for being ready on day one to deal with the issues. I don't care if you think it sounds boilerplate.

I would take you up on it Martha, just to get a free copy, but I already have 3 copies. One hard back (loaned out), one on CD (loaned out) and one on my kindle (which I'm rereading).

Romney is ready day one to deal with the economic issues. The economy was my #1 issue in 2008, and it is even more so today.

Noelle, glad to hear you are loaning out your copies!
