PERRY and the Texas Economy

Big H/T to Houston Chronicle for the following, soon to be discussed ad nauseum:

TEN REASONS WHY THE TEXAS ECONOMY IS GROWING...................that have NOTHING TO DO WITH RICK PERRY

1. RISING OIL PRICES.....Every 10 % rise in oil adds .5 % to the states GDP

2. GOVERNMENT JOB GROWTH... Government payroll went from $ 107 BILLION in 2000
$ 227 BILLION in 2010, with Texas impact accordingly

3. MILITARY SPENDING...Fort Hood is largest single employer in Texas spending $ 3
BILLION annually. Army relocated 14,000 troops to Ft Bliss

4. No TEXAS HOUSING BUBBLE....Due to existing state laws for conservative lending

5. CHEAP IMMIGRANT LABOR...65 % of 4.3 million jobs added since 2000 were Hispanic's
typically working for much lower wages

6. YOUNG, CONSUMER ORIENTED POPULATION

7. HIGH TECH INDUSTRIES

8. FRACKING IN OIL INDUSTRY

9. TEXAS EXPORTS OF OIL AND GAS

10. DRUG TRAFFICKING.......50 % of ALL drugs from Mexico are stopped and offloaded in
Texas, driving consumption and investment in the state.

Very interesting, thx to the Houston Chronicle

Great stuff. I particularly like #10. I wonder if Johnson will jump on the Perry bandwagon now.

"10. DRUG TRAFFICKING.......50 % of ALL drugs from Mexico are stopped and offloaded in" Okaaaaay, I suppose the first logical stop from Mexico would be Wisconsin or South Dakota? It is not like these drug are coming from Canada or Denmark.

OJ, there are four border states with Mexico. And it would make more sense for CA to account for the lion's share of drug trafficking. But it's TX, not CA that is soaking up the majority of those drugs.

the border in texas is a bit more 'loose'. In that for much of it, it is just a fence between ranches, if that.

Anonymous,
O.K so what? The article was just about the source of the money. I'm sure perry is NOT taking the credit for this inflow of cash. It's not good, bad or indifferent. It's just a fact.
