Sarah Palin: "The Undefeated" REVIEWS

Davis Edelstein: (New York Magazine)

New York magazine’s David Edelstein said he really tried to like the film. “I swear I gave ‘The Undefeated’ a chance, because who wants to writhe in agony for two hours?” he wrote. “I hoped that Director Stephen K. Bannon would show a side of Sarah Palin I’d never seen — I thought it would be so cool if I could give the movie a rave. But it’s a straight hagiography, without nuance or ambiguity, or the admission of opposing viewpoints — even those meant to be dismantled.”

Richard Corliss: (Time Magazine)

The director “applies so much idolatrous air brushing to his portrait of the Divine Sarah that the movie might be called ‘Going Rouge.’”

Roger Moore: (Orlando Sentinel)

he have it 1.5 out of four stars, saying it was “persuasive” in its portrayal of Palin’s gubernatorial accomplishments. But he said its lack of balance eroded its credibility, calling it “an infomercial of almost comical omissions.”

Rotten Tomatoes: 10 reviewers had collectively given it a positive score of zero percent.

A.V. Club: (The Onion)

it was “difficult, if not impossible, to imagine anyone who isn’t already a devoted Palinite seeking out or sitting through ‘The Undefeated.’” The reviewer gave it a D-minus.

Robert Abele: (L.A. Times)

“The Undefeated” reminded him of a bad action movie: “hero-worshipping, crescendo-edited at a dizzying pace, thunderously repetitive and its own worst enemy as a two-hour, talking-points briefing.”

Any would have to be out of their mind to think that any thing could save Sarah Pain's political career at this point.

Palin needs to prepare for her next job,"Welcome to Wal-Mart... my name is Sarah "

A better name for this infomercial would be "The Unattended".

A bit of an underwhelming launch for Undefeated, the Sarah Palin campaign ad that averaged $2870 per screen yesterday or about 287 people a day per screen or about 60 people per screening. Other better indies did worse… but none had the marketing might of FoxNews behind them.

The Undefeated currently holds a 0% rating on the review aggregator site Rottentomatoes, which means all of the 10 journalists who have given their verdict reviewed it negatively. Most described the film as a hagiography or an advert. The Village Voice's Anna Merlan called it "a glowing two-hour infomercial for Sarah Palin, Presidential Candidate To-Be" while the LA Times's Robert Abele described "a troop-rallying campaign infomercial as imagined by Michael Bay: hero-worshipping, crescendo-edited at a dizzying pace, thunderously repetitive and its own worst enemy as a two-hour, talking-points briefing".

Meanwhile, another documentary with a rather different take on Palin has been shot by Nick Broomfield, the acclaimed British documentarian. Currently seeking distribution, it reportedly features disparaging interviews with Palin's parents, friends and former Alaska colleagues.

That's the movie I'll spend my money to see.

Should we be surprised that these left-of-center journalists didn't like a movie about Sarah Palin? As long as their not manufacturing headlines about empty theaters at midnight, like the hack from The Atlantic, I don't care what their reviews say.

Bos,

Way to make our new lefty trolls feel at home.

Now that a national rollout is about to commence, I anticipate even more negative reviews from the MSM. Who cares.

Nelson,

Didn't you post the exact same comment on the previous post?

RWN,

"Bos,

Way to make our new lefty trolls feel at home."

With all these UnDeafeated Posts, you'd think it was the best thing to happen since the invention of sliced bread. Far from it!

Anonymous said...

RWN, so are you suggesting that every critic is left leaning. I don't think so. The movie sucks and the numbers being touted by Bannon are inflated. He will never get his investment back.

hamaca said...

I'm not understanding the rationale behind bashing the film.

The guy wants to make a film showing his perspective of what went on with Sarah.

People who want to see it will see it. People who don't, won't.

Why, and for whom, is it such a victory if it "succeeds" or not according to whatever criteria?

Bizarre.

RW,

"Bos,

I'm not surprised at Bosman at all. As long as the lefty trolls don't say anything about Romney then they are more than welcome. Spewing their insane hatred about Palin is just an added plus and some chuckles for many of the Rombots.

Now when they turn on Romney (which they will)....watch the outrage and banning begin.

HaHaHaHa!

AJR,

When you guys criticize Romney, are you all "LEFTY TROLLS"?

Why is it only "LEFTY TROLLS" where Palin is concerned?

BTW, NO BANNINGS!

Bos,

I'm glad you found my comment funny but do you really think that dd, Nelson and many of the other anon posters are Hardcore Conservative Republicans? If you do, I got some great beachfront property to sell you in Nebraska.

AJR, you are 100% wrong. You have not, nor will you ever hear me criticize ( speak the truth) about any other conservative. Sarah is the only one who I find offensive on every level.

I don't understand why the bots think that anyone who is opposed to Palin has to be a liberal.

dd,

I never said anyone who is opposed to Palin has to be liberal. The vast majority of the people on this site are opposed to Palin if she runs for President in 2012 and they are still Republicans and/or Conservatives. It is the ones who show nothing but contempt for Palin, her family and her supporters are suspect in my mind.

Don't worry dd, you and the other Palin haters on Right Speak are held in higher regard than the Palin supporters by many of the Rombots. I would assume that Jersey, RW, OJ and myself are the most unpopular people here.

AJR, Sorry, but I do have "nothing but contempt" for her and how she treats her kids. I don't think you will find any conservative presidential candidate who has used their kids in the manner Palin has. Romney has a lovely family with a ton of kids, however, we hardly ever see them. They don't write books with explicit sexual stories.

Many conservatives are afraid to speak the truth about Palin, I'm not.

I don't mind being unpopular here. I commend Bosman for allowing freedom of speech. My intent is never to offend anyone, even RW, even though I probably do, at times. Have a good day!

I have to agree that movie reviewers frequently do not like the movies I do. Some of my favorite movies are about a C- on their scale. They spend so much time watching movies, that many of them have lost touch with the general public, who do NOT make it to all the movies. Movie critics frequently like "artistic" movies that don't even do very well at the box office.

Anyway, I don't really care about whether or not Sarah's movie does well, but I often disagree with reviewers about what is a good movie.

Speaking of movies, there is one that came out this summer called "17 Miracles" based on the story of the Willie Handcart Company. These pioneers (yes, they were Mormon) suffered just as much as the Donner party, but their reaction to their suffering was very different. Unfortunately, everyone has heard of the Donner and Reid parties, but almost no one has heard of the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies. This is a tale of the Old West that is worth telling, but because religion is involved, it is never told in history class. If you want to see a movie that will touch your heart, I highly recommend "17 Miracles."

I have a little treat for those of you who enjoyed The Undefeated.

If you enjoyed Sarah's movie, perhaps you'll enjoy this.

Palin just doesn't sell very broadly.

Not as a VP candidate.
Not as a governor.
Not as a Fox New interview hostess.
Not as a book signer bus tour.
Not as a reality show.
Not as another bus tour.

Not as a movie.

She has a niche market, that's all. Once it leaves these ten "tea party cities" as described by its distributors, it will likely be panned.

Sorry I Saw The Movie,

But if I were forced to choose between watching Palin's movie and paint drying, I'd choose Sarah!

AZ, I'm seeing that this Friday date night. I have ancestors who when out there to get them.
