Bachmann's Campaign Likely To Be Shelved By Serious Medical Condition

If the follow is true, Michele Bachmann's presidential campaign is effectively over. This is a serious, debilitating illness. This is similar to the condition that Minnesota Vikings star, Percy Harvin suffers from. He regularly misses multiple days of practices in a row, and has even been forced to sit out a few games in the past two years. Sources close to Harvin claim that he can't leave the house, or even get off the couch when the migraines take hold.

There is no way Michele Bachmann can be elected President Of The United States. She should drop out of the race now. It's a sad way to have to end a campaign, but it is what it is.

Staff turnover can frustrate any employer, but Bachmann responded more dramatically. Dziok’s departure triggered a debilitating medical episode that landed the congresswoman in urgent care.

“Within 24 hours she was in the hospital,” a former aide says.

Bachmann was admitted to a Washington, D.C. hospital on Friday, July 30, and released that same day. She flew home to Minnesota to recuperate, missing a scheduled campaign event with Sen. Roy Blunt.

It’s “nothing folks should worry about going forward,” Dziok told reporters at the time, refusing to specify why Bachmann had been hospitalized.

It was, according to three people who have worked closely with Bachmann, not an isolated event.

The Minnesota Republican frequently suffers from stress-induced medical episodes that she has characterized as severe headaches. These episodes, say witnesses, occur once a week on average and can “incapacitate” her for days at time. On at least three occasions, Bachmann has landed in the hospital as a result.

“She has terrible migraine headaches. And they put her out of commission for a day or more at a time. They come out of nowhere, and they’re unpredictable,” says an adviser to Bachmann who was involved in her 2010 congressional campaign. “They level her. They put her down. It’s actually sad. It’s very painful.”

Bachmann’s medical condition wouldn’t merit public attention, but for the fact she is running for president. Some close to Bachmann fear she won’t be equal to the stress of the campaign, much less the presidency itself.

“When she gets ‘em, frankly, she can’t function at all. It’s not like a little thing with a couple Advils. It’s bad,” the adviser says. “The migraines are so bad and so intense, she carries and takes all sorts of pills. Prevention pills. Pills during the migraine. Pills after the migraine, to keep them under control. She has to take these pills wherever she goes.”

(...)

Sources who spoke to The Daily Caller said they did so because they are terrified about the impact the condition could have on Bachmann’s performance if she actually became president. They also worry that the issue could blow up in the general election campaign, giving President Obama an easy path to re-election.

“It’s a careful choice of words I used: ‘incapacitated,’” the adviser says.

“As president, when she’s in crisis management mode, is she going to have the physical ability to withstand the most difficult challenges facing America?” the former aide asks.

TheDC agreed to provide the sources anonymity because they were providing information only a select group of people could know, at great professional risk.

Two sources independently provided detailed accounts of Bachmann’s condition. A third source confirmed that Bachmann frequently suffers from debilitating headache episodes.

I am thankful that I have never had to deal with migraines. I don't have headaches very often, but when I do, even when they are pretty mild, I hate them. I can't even imagine how bad it must be to suffer from migraines.

I wish Michele Bachmann all the best.

But even without the migraine issue, I still think Bachmann is not the best candidate we can put forward. Mitt Romney is the one for the job.

I wish her the best too. I don't mean to sound harsh by saying she should drop out, but we need to be realistic here.

If it's true, I agree. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the job of POTUS is the hardest in the world. We need the person in that role who can give 110%.

i dont see bachmann ending her run because of it, but in the case it did palin would be more likely to enter

Palin probably leaked/created it. I am serious - who benefits most? Palin, by a large margin.

Pawlenty's people probably leaked it. At least one of her former Chief's of staff works for TPaw now.

I like Michele and feel for her migraines. The "politics" of how this info is out is always curious.

Nevertheless, her resume on JOBS and the ECONOMY is thin, not non-existent, but thin. Mitt's resume is solid and extensive.

Michele's voice in the House is needed! I'm sad to think that she would sacrifice that great opportunity to serve our country for an extremely long shot at POTUS. I think her voice in the election is good, but losing her conservative voice in the House is a greater loss!

If eleceted president with this condition, Bachmann herself would be a grave danger to this country. We can't have a president who is incapacitated for day(s) at a time.

If she cares at all for her country she will drop out now.

I also wish her the best in her personal health. I think she is a wonderful person.

Maybe so, but I smell a rat here.

My daughter suffers from this exact same thing, and I know how difficult it can be. I think the story is probably a little overblown, though.

Martha, since your daughter has them, you probably know the severity can vary greatly between different people. I never understood how debilitating they could be until Percy Harvin was drafted by the Vikings. At first, people were baffled that he would miss so much practice time, and even some games due to migraines. I remember thinking, "just take a few Advil and get on the field." Then, stories started coming out as to the severity of his condition. It affects his vision, causes vomiting, and as I stated in my post, keeps him on the couch for days. This past season, he was literally absent from practice and the lineup for two full weeks. Viking fans were absolutely baffled that this very talented young man could be so hampered by "headaches." I get the impression that the general public
has very little understanding of how serious this can be.

RW, Bachmann is a joke of a candidate, IMO, but this story is just way too convenient.

I suspect the severity of her condition has been exaggerated. Who says she has it as bad as Harvin? I don't trust the story.

This smells of desperation on the part of Pawlenty, and it's going to backfire. First he's playing the religion card on Romney, and now he's picking on a woman with migraines. Not a smart strategy.

Bachmann needs to be taken down on substance.

I realize it's hard to do that in a place like Iowa. They seem to care about all the wrong things, and are impervious to the truth. Just as long as their 'one of us' candidate visits churches and shares the same testimony, they're happy.

Martha, maybe you should read the entire article that RW linked. It is full of other incidents that completely debilitated Bachmann. It was published on the Daily Caller, a reputable site. This is not some paranoid conspiracy site that deals in Trutherism.

"Bachmann needs to be taken down on substance."

Her physical inability to meet the demands of President is substance of the first order. Would you prefer that she be taken down with paranoid, completely insubstantiated conspiracies like Trutherism?

"My daughter suffers from this exact same thing, and I know how difficult it can be."

Thanks for sharing your anecdotal expertise. Your great at that. Really, this is one of your best weapons. When reason can't win your argument you whip out some anecdotal evidence. Like gays you know that were born that way, or your daughter's migraines, or only women are smart enough to see through Sarah Palin, or you know some kid who got a vaccine and was coincidentally autistic...

RWN, Race JUST put this story up with the term, "BREAKING".

You had this up last night!

Congrats

Dan, I did read the entire article. It's more than obvious that it's an exaggerated story by someone who stands to benefit.

Best weapons? LOL. I don't have any weapons. I do have a daughter who gets terrible migraines, and they do affect her life severely sometimes. I do know some people who were gay from their youth. (I would find it hard to believe that you don't) After many hours of research, I learned that some vaccines, and vaccine ingredients are toxic to children in the dose and regimen suggested. My own daughter, for one. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't give my children one single vaccine. Not in America, that is.

I think Bachmann is a horrible candidate. I just don't think migraines are her demise.

Martha,

The argument that vaccines cause autism has been as thouroughly, scientifically, and clinically debunked as anything has been proven in the last 40 years. Science matters to you on the gay issue but not on vaccines. The unifying theme on all these is your personal anecdotes.

I agree with RWN on this.

The Presidency is a HIGH PRESURE job.
We can't have anyone in that office who can't deal with stress or pressure either for medical OR OTHER reasons.

I am glad your children had the vaccines, Martha. Recently, there was quite an outbreak of Rubella in Utah. Some kid went to Poland to pick up his sister from a mission and got them, then brought them home to share with a bunch of other kids who hadn't been vaccinated. Apparently, they all lived due to great medical care, but the expense of quarantine was immense.

The reason this kid hadn't been vaccinated? His parents were afraid of autism. The truth about autism is that NOBODY knows what causes it. The idea that we have more autism today than in the past is ridiculous; we just diagnose it more accurately. This is true of many diseases.

Dan, if you will recall I said the exact opposite about scientific evidence on the gay question. Scientific evidence in this case doesn't matter to me, because it's obvious people do not choose to be gay.

As for the anecdotes - I have my opinions as do you. My life experience informs my opinions.

As for the vaccines, sure it's anecdotal. Scientific studies are often flawed, and I'm more inclined to believe the parents who noticed a definite change in their children after a vaccine. I just don't believe they're lying or crazy.

As a mom with a brain-injured child who experienced a most definite change in my daughter's development right after her vaccines at age 18 months, I know full well that parents don't have an agenda other than getting to the bottom of the truth. There's no motive to falsely accuse anyone. So yes, I believe my own daughters development was possible affected by a vaccine. I don't know, and neither does anyone else.

I believe that certain children are more susceptible to vaccines than others. That doesn't seem so unreasonable to me. After my daughter's vaccinations at 18 months, I found out she should have been given a different one, and the one she was given was dangerous to DS children.

Sorry, but after 14 years of dealing with inept doctors, I've learned to be a little skeptical of the medical establishment.

-Martha

AZ, I respectfully disagree with you. Who are you to say that you are glad MY children are vaccinated?

I think there's a place for vaccines in the world, but the widespread vaccination of American children for diseases that are not even a remote threat is irresponsible.

There are much better ways to deal with disease than vaccinations.

Martha, I totally agree that Bachmann will lose on SUBSTANCE, (or lack of it) and not the fact she gets a headache now and then. this sounds like desparation, not inspiration on the part of a candidate or two.

Can't we be a little nicer here? Her competencies as a politician are up for debate, but the story is about her serious medical condition which we cannot ignore. She deserves sympathy, not celebration for her lost ticket to presidency.
