ROMNEY leads in LATEST CALIFORNIA POLL

The FIELD POLL in California, out this morning, has some great results for Romney:

Romney..........25 %
Giuliani.......... 17 %
Palin............... 10%
Paul................ 7 %
Gingrich......... 6 %
Cain............... 6 %
Perry.............. 5 %
Bachmann..... 4 %
Pawlenty....... 3 %
Santorum..... 2 %
Huntsman.... 1 %

Without Giuliani, Mitt's lead increases to 30 % compared to 12 % for Palin. The poll was taken before the debate and has a big MOE among REGISTERED REPUBLICANS of 5.7 %. But Field is a pretty good poll. Still pretty early.

Those are great numbers for Romney in California.

Without Rudy, it's a runaway.

I expect Mitt to be strong in California; at least in the primaries. Nothing seems to stop the majority of people in California from voting for their own destruction, so they will almost surely vote for Obama again in the general.

Digging further into the Field Poll leads to some very interesting data. Out of 6 California Regions polled, Obama is LOSING in 4. These are
Orange County / San Diego
Other S. California
Central Valley
Other Northern California

Oh, I know, everybody will say the obvious. Obama is leading where it counts, LA and SF, by a lot. But 54% of the state lives where he is losing and 46 % lives in LA and SF.
So, the upshot is that Field says Obama is up by 9 %, 49 -40 with 11 % having No Opinion. So.......
with the RIGHT ticket, the state could be surprisingly close

If anyone has a shot at winning CA in the general, and I know it would be very difficult, I believe Romney could come the closest or maybe even pull it off.

I agree that Romney has a better chance in California than most of the other Republican candidates. However, Orange County and the Central Valley are Republican territories, just for the record. The water fiasco in the Central Valley--i.e., no water because of an endangered fish--has also helped the Republican cause in California.
