Mitch Daniels Speech At AEI (VIDEO)

Mitch Daniels delivered an education speech on Wednesday afternoon at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative research organization, it was difficult to discern whether he was relishing or dreading the idea of a campaign of any length. He used a slide show presentation to outline his sweeping changes for Indiana schools, which he is scheduled to sign into law later this week.

The new initiatives greatly expand charter schools, end teacher tenure, narrow teachers’ collective bargaining rights and introduce a taxpayer-financed voucher of $4,500 for students to attend private schools. The voucher program would be available to any student from a family with up to a middle-class income of about $60,000.

Listened for 10 and found it pretty slow-going, but I do think Daniels is the real deal. I like his demeanor, even as I question how it will play in a presidential election. Maybe I'll go back and listen to the Q/A.

He may not have wanted this appearance to be considered a significant address, but he's known everyone was waiting for this speech for a couple of months now. If he's REALLY running, maybe he should have tried to inspire us a little, and not gone for straight boring. Many of his supporters thought this was going to be the big day. What a let down for them.
