Beck's Fox Show Ending (Hallelujah!)

Glenn Beck will end his daily Fox News Channel program later this year.

His departure was jointly announced in a statement on Wednesday by Fox and Mr. Beck’s company, Mercury Radio Arts.

Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts, which have clashed over the making of “Glenn Beck,” will “work together to develop and produce a variety of television projects for air on the Fox News Channel as well as content for other platforms including Fox News’ digital properties,” the companies said in the statement.

Full story.

The beginning of the end was when Beck called Obama a racist. He lost significant advertising support which has not come back. Additionally his numbers have been in free fall the last several months. This is a good lesson for all would be firebrand nutcases. Hatred riddled with conspiracy theories, foul language, and violent rhetoric may stoke the flames for like minded people for a while, but will eventually burn out. Beck, the charlatan, made a fortune peddling his hateful rhetoric the last two years at Fox, but he has run his course.

Good riddance. Now if only his radio show would go belly up too.

Dan,

Don't hold back. Tell us what you really think.

AJR, back in the ROS days I let Beck have it with a few blogs. I pointed out several of his lies, distortions, and half truths. I also blasted him for being full of hate. No need to rehash all that now.

Dan,

I used to listen to Beck and watch his show sometimes but I grew tired of the conspiracy theories (you can only hear the sky is falling for so long) and blaming the Republicans more than the Democrats. The Republicans have made some poor choices in the past but on their worst day they are a million times better than the Democrats on their best day.

Maybe he's running for President?

I'm with you.

I won't miss him. To theatrical for my taste.

His problem has always been that he believes NOTHING ever happens by chance. Everything has to be explained. That makes him as far as I'm concerned, a NUT JOB!

I like Glenn Beck. However, I do get tired of being told there "isn't a difference between Republicans and Democrats." That is absurd.

In addition, he gets a litle preachy at times. I like his investigations of Van Jones, George Soros, etc. Not enough people in the media expose these people for who they are.

I have a few other issues with him, but he's not the devil he's made out to be. The media hatchet job has apparently worked.

He's not leaving Fox, by the way.

Best line of the day. I actually hardly ever watch him and I do not listen to him as much as others, but with respect, those who bash him need to get a life. There are far worse people than him around, and I franly do not understand all the time wasted bashing him. BDS is interesting to say the least.

RW, I didn't say that he is leaving Fox. In fact, in the third paragraph of the quote I used, it says that Beck will work on other projects at Fox.

And to be fair, Beck did do some good work exposing Van Jones and Acorn. Problem is that he is insane, and most people see that. So he has marginalized his usefulness at any further exposes. Very few Americans will believe him now. He's the boy who cried (and cried, and blubbered, and wailed wolf).

OJ, it's amazing how much more of a life I have now that I no longer listen to talk radio or watch Fox News. Literally. I am so much more productive now that I don't let all that negative, pessimistic, doomsday, distortion laden hyperbole weigh me down. Really, sincerely, I would suggest to all those who devote hours a day listening to talk radio or watching Fox to get a life. Stop obsessing with all sensational exaggerated stories that they peddle. You'll be happier and more productive.

Pardon me, but hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

In other quarterly ratings news, the audience for Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck plummeted 30 percent in average viewership versus the first quarter of 2010.

Did the media hold a gun to the heads of the Fox News devotees who once watched Beck, but eventually fell away? Does Media Matters have even 10% of the audience that Beck did on Fox?

Excuse me for a moment. hahahahahahahahahahaha.

Beck lost viewers who are loyal Fox viewers. They watched him for over a year, but got sick of his crap and stopped watching. This was a free market solution. This was not some friggin despot ruled country scrubbing the air waves or internet of Beck's ravings.

Well Dan, I actually do not get Fox TV, I only watch it on vacation or the gym or something. With regards to you specifically, I'll take your word for it that you have a life, but too be blunt, I am curious as to what he did to piss in your corn-flakes. Maybe I am naive, but do you really think that Mr. Beck sets out to distort, exaggerate and tell lies? Does he say things that happen to be untrue? Absolutely, but let's just say he certainly does not have the worst record.

"do you really think that Mr. Beck sets out to distort, exaggerate and tell lies?"

Yes, I do. And I thought that I made that abundantly clear back in the ROS days. Beck only cares about making himself wealthy, and he will use any tool that he thinks will get him the most wealth with the least amount of work. Stoking the fires of hatred and division through lies and distortion worked very well for him for a couple of years in amassing a great deal of wealth.

I won't dispute that he has some wealth, but he certainly does not spread hate. Yes, he is not as Pro-Immigration as some of us, but that does not in and of itself make him a hateful person.

OJ, I just don't care to spend hours debunking your ideas that Beck isn't a hateful man. But he is on record fantasizing on his shows (radio and tv) about beating Charlie Rangel to death with a shovel, giving a glass of poisoned wine to Nancy Pelosi, claiming that persons whose houses were burned in CA wildfires a few years ago were getting what they deserved because they hate America. He's used the word hate to express his feelings about progressives, Woodrow Wilson, Mother's Day, Teddy Roosevelt and various others. He is on record saying that he hated some of the families of 9/11 victims, as well as the Katrina refugees.

DanL - two "hahahahahahahahahahaha"'s in the same post is rather creepy.

I'm glad Beck will be less prevalant but your post at 3:15 has me thinking a little of Beck rubbed off on you today.

Dan, I know we went at it back in the ROS days, and I'm not looking to go down that road. I like you and am glad that you're a part of this site. But, some of this strikes me as irrational hatred on your part. That could just have easily been written by Media Matters. That's jumping the shark just a wee bit.

RWN, why are you so afraid of the truth? If Beck is a scum then he is a scum. Being right wing shouldn't be protection for him. And I am judging him by his own words. And I'm glad that you're here too.
