Washington Post/ABC Poll: Sarah Palin losing more ground among Republicans

Sarah Palin’s ratings within the GOP are slumping, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll — a potentially troubling sign for the former Alaska governor as she weighs whether to enter the 2012 presidential race.
For the first time in Post-ABC News polling, fewer than six in 10 Republicans and GOP-leaning independents see Palin in a favorable light, down from a stratospheric 88 percent in the days after the 2008 Republican National Convention and 70 percent as recently as October.
This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone March 10 to 13, 2011, among a random national sample of 1,005 adults, including users of both conventional and cellular phones. The results from the full survey have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Sampling, data collection and tabulation by TNS of Horsham, Pa.

Mitt Romney, conservative darling?

Maybe it's because she doesn't seem to have an off button, but it's also because she hasn't been able to show that she's qualified. A lot of Republicans gave her the benefit of the doubt for a long time, maybe too long.

I heard that Obama is sending her Japan, because she's an 'energy expert'. She'll be helping in the clean up of the nuke meltdowns.

At this point I don't understand the obsession with Palin by her detractors. She is polling terribly. Huckabee, on the other hand, just keeps gaining ground, while Romney is losing ground. Why waste energy going after Palin while ignoring the Huck threat.

DanL,

What is the "obsession"?

I see poll results and quotes from that poll posted here.

Should only polls with positive results be posted for Palin?

Socrates, my comment was not directed at the original post. It is worthwhile to post poll results so we can gauge just where support is for each of the candidates. That is very useful. I just keep seeing on many sites on the web an obsession with blasting Palin for everything that she ever does. Why do her detractors expend so much energy on this? Huckabee is the real threat.

Sorry DanL, I misunderstood your comment.

Although I'd vote for Palin or Gingrich over Huckabee if it came down to that, I'd vote for Romney over all 3.

I think there is an obsession with Palin, because she manages to keep herself in the news. Deliberately or not.

Socrates, she does that for sure.

They ‘blast’ Palin because she is the real threat to the GOP elite and the Dems. She gets top dollar for speeches that sellout. The ‘only’ people on her side are millions of Americans. God bless America.

In this same poll:

Sixty percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents view Romney favorably, while just 21 percent see him in an unfavorable light.

That’s an improvement from where he stood in early January 2008 – in the heart of the GOP primary fight – when 55 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents viewed him favorably and 36 percent felt unfavorably toward him. And back in November 2007, Romney’s favorable score stood at 42 percent while 28 percent felt unfavorably toward him in Post/ABC data.

It's getting tougher and tougher for Palin to justify giving up her current security when she keeps losing ground with the voters
