Rick Perry: ObamaCare and RomneyCare are "so similar...."

Texas Governor, Rick Perry has taken to the airwaves to educate GOP presidential primary voters about the similarities between ObamaCare and the health care legislation conceived and enacted by former Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney. Speaking at the Heritage Foundation to promote his new book, "Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America from Washington," Perry fired the first shot.

Politico Reports:
"Texas Gov. Rick Perry insists that he’s not running for president, but he didn’t mind offering an unvarnished view Monday about the signature policy accomplishment of one Republican who almost certainly is in the race.

“The health care plan out of Massachusetts, I would suggest to you, is too much the like the health care plan passed out of Washington,” Perry said, succinctly voicing one of the chief difficulties former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney faces in the upcoming GOP primary."

The following day, Perry sat down with Greta Van Susteren from Fox News. When asked about whether he would support Mitt Romney for President, he sounded less than enthusiastic--once again, citing Romney's health care legislation.

Fast forward to 4:00 for the good part:

"The fact is, that they (ObamaCare & RomneyCare) are so similar, that it's going to be a major anchor unless he stands up and repudiates that approach."

He also stated, unequivocally, that he has no desire to run for President. I have a hunch he already has someone in mind for the job.

If you start your video at about the 3:20 mark, you'll find Perry talking about his state finding it's own solution to health care.

Sounds to me, that he's being a little hypocritical. It's alright for Texas to finds a solution for their state. but not Massachusetts for theirs?

He's not making sense. Either states have a right to find their own solutions, or they don't?

Which is it Governor Perry?

Ann, Perry isn't in favor of big government soultions. Therefore, he must be concluding that Mitt believes that far too often, government is the solution to our problems. He doesn't argue that Mass didn't have the constitutional right to do it.

The states rights argument won't be enough.

RWN,

With respect, I disagree.

Perry clearly states that the plan he wants, it would be a 50/50 split when it comes to paying for it. Another words, He would do what Romney did.

Romney took the FED monies that had been going to hospitals to buy/subsidize insurance for the poor.

Where I think he disagrees, is the Mandate.

He's wrong to. The mandate in MA was deemed constitutional under their state constitution. Mandates at a federal level are not constitutional.

Romney knows this and states this.

Perry looks foolish criticizing one thing and wanting to do something similar himself.

His argument is with Obam's mandate, not Romney's that's constitutional and ONLY affects MA residents.

Governor Rick Perry is testing the waters. He is wants to run for President and he is signaling that he is the perfect candidate to run against the front runner Mitt Romney.
