The Trump administration has announced a security deal with Denmark over Greenland, surprising no one except the entire foreign policy establishment and a bunch of slogan-chanting journalists who surrendered their capacity for independent thought at least 10 years ago. This is why you don’t take legacy media seriously, and the same goes for listening to the professional brow-furrowers at the think tanks. Remember what they were saying at the beginning of the year:

Like everyone else in the dinosaur media, the toddlers at The New York Times spent January wetting their diapers over the whole thing. Trump was getting ready to attack all of Europe, starting the bloody meal with Greenland as a mere appetizer. The Times compared Trump to, you’ll never guess, Adolf Hitler, with a headline about how Nazis have always yearned to control Greenland. Trump, the leading Democrat newsletter declared, was announcing his violent intentions with regard to Greenland as a way of communicating his intent to exercise unlimited power everywhere. The world would be soaked in blood as the terrifying fascist brutally invaded Greenland, obviously.
NATO’s darkest hour, it turns out, led to a security deal that Denmark and Greenland are speaking of with considerable warmth. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that the agreement “strengthens our common security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic Area and therefore is great for NATO and Europe as well.”
Compare the January framing and the September outcome:
The destruction of NATO, an attack on NATO, NATO’s darkest hour, the end of NATO, an insult to NATO.
And then a deal that’s “great for NATO.”
Remember that, and you’ll be immune to the “news” forever.
In January, NPR warned that people in Greenland were hurt, angry, and confused over Trump’s angry and threatening rhetoric. In September, Greenland Premier Jens-Frederik Nielsen praised the deal for strengthening the security of Greenland. “It is to the benefit of us all,” he said.
The formal agreement has not yet been released, but the parties are expected to sign it next week at the United Nations General Assembly. The Trump administration is characterizing it as an agreement that expands an existing 1951 executive agreement, rather than a treaty, so it appears that Trump won’t submit it to the Senate for ratification, denying John Cornyn and Thom Tillis a chance to showboat. President Donald Trump’s newly announced security agreement with Denmark and Greenland would block US adversaries from establishing bases in Greenland and limit adversarial investments on the island, a move one security expert says limits China and Russia’s ambitions in the region.
Speaking on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Center for Security Policy senior fellow and retired US Marine Col. Grant Newsham compared Trump’s pact with Denmark and Greenland to the US acquisition of Alaska in 1867.
Newsham argued the agreement secures vital North American defense geography while limiting Russian and Chinese expansion.
“This is a big deal. This is right up there with Secretary of State Seward getting Alaska,” Newsham said Saturday.
“It’s a little different because we haven’t bought the place, but it locks up or brings into the fold, really, key terrain, key geography, up on our northeast,” he explained. “Russia and the Chinese, in particular, they can’t get in there militarily, and they cannot get in economically.”
On Friday, the president announced the deal in a post on Truth Social, saying the agreement would give the US permanent control over security in Greenland.
“I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many US concerns,” Trump wrote.
“There will be NO COST to the United States! At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America.” --->READ MORE HERE
