Republican Bruce Blakeman could pull off a stunning upset in New York’s closely watched governor’s race — with the conservative challenger just 4-percentage points behind Democratic incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul in a new poll.
Hochul only leads the underdog and current Nassau County executive 49.6% to 45.7% among likely voters, according to the survey conducted by McLaughlin & Associates for the Blakeman campaign.
The remaining 4.7% of likely voters are undecided, the poll found, based on interviews with 800 likely voters from Aug. 27-31.
The nail-bitingly close results reflect growing dissatisfaction with Hochul’s ability to lead the Empire State, according to the pollsters who conducted the survey.
More than half of voters (55%) don’t have a favorable view of the governor, who is seeking a second term, poll found.
“The majority of voters (56%) believe that it’s time to give someone else a chance to do better, while only 38% say Kathy Hochul has performed well enough as Governor to deserve re-election,” pollster John McLaughlin said in a memo outlining the results.
“The results show New York voters are dissatisfied with the direction of the state and Governor Hochul continues to miss critical benchmarks for a safe incumbent, leaving the opportunity for Bruce Blakeman to defeat Kathy Hochul this November.”
Still, Blakeman shouldn’t celebrate too soon. The GOP challenger faces a significant recognition issue with the Nov. 3 election less than two months away.
Almost a third of likely voters (30%) admit they have either never heard of him or don’t have an opinion on him, according to the survey.
An independent poll conducted by Siena College last month showed Hochul leading by 10 percentage points — 49% to 39% — among likely voters, with the remainder undecided.
Unsurprisingly, Hochul trounces Blakeman 60% to 33% among likely voters in deep-blue New York City, with 7% undecided, according to the new McLaughlin & Associates poll.
Blakeman, for his part, leads Hochul by 5 points (51% to 46%) upstate and by 10 points (53% to 43%) in the suburbs, the survey found.
However, the Republican would need a huge turnout in the suburbs and upstate to overcome Hochul’s enormous advantage in the Big Apple, or he would need to cut into her lead in the city. --->READ MORE HERE

A new poll commissioned by Bruce Blakeman’s campaign shows Governor Kathy Hochul leading the Republican challenger by fewer than 4 percentage points, with nearly 5 percent of likely voters undecided.
The survey of 800 likely New York voters, conducted Aug. 27-31 by McLaughlin & Associates, found Hochul, a Democrat, with 49.6 percent support and Blakeman, the Nassau County Executive, with 45.7 percent. Another 4.7 percent were undecided.
The poll’s margin of error was not provided in the campaign’s release. A Siena poll conducted last month had Hochul ahead of Blakeman by a margin of 49 percent to 39 percent.
“Kathy Hochul’s New York is a disaster: taxes are up, rents are up, utility bills are up, crime is up, and families are fleeing the state,” Blakeman said in a statement. “This November, they’re going to fire Kathy Hochul and elect me to make New York affordable again, keep families here, and build a new era where everyone has the opportunity to prosper.”
Hochul campaign spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki responded by calling out Blakeman and the poll.
“Bruce Fakeman is pushing fake AI-generated ads, fake government letters to solicit donations, and fake polls to cover up the fact that nobody in the real world is buying what he’s selling: a ‘100 percent MAGA’ puppet enabling ICE’s violence, running his own armed militia, and promising to gut Medicaid and raise your costs,” Radulovacki said. --->READ MORE HERE
