The competition to see who the most shallow, feckless Republican in the U.S. Senate can be tight. But somehow, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski always finds a way to come out on top.
The Last Frontier State’s senior senator announced on Friday that she will be joining her pal Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, in opposing Todd Blanche’s attorney general nomination. In typical Murkowski fashion, her reasons ranged from utter incoherence to outright dishonesty.
In one breath, she praises Blanche as someone who “comes across as decent and capable.” Then, in the very next, she insinuates that he would abandon those attributes by going back on his decision to rescind the now-defunct anti-weaponization fund after his Senate confirmation.
Perhaps the most egregious part of Murkowski’s diatribe, however, is the part in which she laughably claims that the “politicization” and “even weaponization” of the Justice Department “did not start with this administration but has accelerated during it” (emphasis added). Put another way, the mentally deficient queen of the North believes that acquiring justice and accountability for the DOJ’s past abusers is equivalent to the weaponization those same abusers undertook in their jihad against Donald Trump and Republicans.
It’s total and complete nonsense.
Fortunately for Blanche, a last-minute voice of support from outgoing Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., seems to give him enough votes to be confirmed to the position full-time. But for Murkowski, the incident shows yet again how she is nothing more than another Republican In Name Only (RINO) with a personal ax to grind.
Consider, for instance, that the Alaska senator had no problem voting for Merrick Garland’s attorney general nomination. The Biden-appointed Garland would go on to weaponize the DOJ like no AG before him. Under his tenure, the department attempted to imprison Trump ahead of the 2024 election, 2020 election protestors, pro-lifers, and other faithful Christians; spied on several of Murkowski’s GOP colleagues; and targeted parents protesting unscientific Covid restrictions and racial indoctrination at school board meetings. --->READ MORE HERE
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) announced Friday that he will vote in favor of confirming Todd Blanche as the next attorney general, effectively confirming his ascent to the nation’s highest law enforcement post.
Cassidy faulted Blanche for having “showed poor judgment in approving the anti-weaponization slush fund and exempting the president from IRS audits,” as well as allowing the Justice Department to target the president’s political enemies, but ultimately concluded: “I will vote for Mr. Blanche.”
“Mr. Blanche is not perfect, and he will tell you this, but the choice is not between perfection and Mr. Blanche: It is between Mr. Blanche and another acting attorney general who may not run the department effectively under President Trump, and who indeed may not be as good as Mr. Blanche,” said Cassidy from the Senate floor.
“This puts at risk the progress made fighting violent crime, human and drug trafficking and fraud. And this does not serve the American people well. This is not a referendum on President Trump. It is a decision regarding Mr. Blanche in very specific circumstances.”
With Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) absent due to ongoing health issues, Blanche could only afford to lose two GOP votes in the upper chamber and still be confirmed.
Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) previously announced they would vote “no.”
“The politicization — even weaponization — of the Department did not start with this administration but has accelerated during it,” Murkowski said in a statement earlier Friday.
“I take issue with the handling of the release of the [Jeffrey] Epstein files; the sweeping immunity protections granted to the President, his family, and their businesses; the statements that have been made to anti-abortion groups; and the repeated targeting of individuals ranging from former administration staff to sitting U.S. Senators,” she added. --->READ MORE HERE
