Too Clever by Half: Comey Indicted for Veiled Threat to Trump: His Claim That He Didn’t Know What ‘86 47’ Meant Doesn’t Stand Up to Scrutiny; Ex-FBI Director James Comey Indicted for Threatening to Kill Trump in ‘86 47’ Instagram Post

Too Clever by Half: Comey Indicted for Veiled Threat to Trump:
His claim that he didn’t know what ‘86 47’ meant doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.
The smarmiest and most self-righteous of all FBI directors, James Comey, has been indicted again. Fox News reported Tuesday that “the charges appear to be in relation to a May 2025 Instagram photo of an ‘86 47’ shell formation on a beach.” Comey claims that he didn’t know what “86” meant. His explanation of why he shared the photo, however, doesn’t stand up to even the most superficial scrutiny.
Fox explains that “in the slang often used in the service industry, to ‘86’ something means to eject, cancel or get rid of it. Donald Trump is currently the 47th president of the United States.” And in a tacit recognition that he knew he had crossed the line, Comey “removed the post the same day it was uploaded.”
The unctuous deep stater explained: “I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message. I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me, but I oppose violence of any kind, so I took the post down.”
Yeah, sure. These days, every other Democrat is calling openly for violence against Trump and his supporters, and the rest will get around to doing so soon enough. And so Trump himself responded: “He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant, that meant ‘assassination,’ and it says it loud and clear.”
Indeed, and if there is any lingering doubt, Comey’s (likely ghostwritten) potboiler crime novel, FDR Drive, removes it once and for all. In May 2025, Comey went on NPR to plug the book, and the propaganda outfit’s Leila Fadel stated: “At the heart of this crime novel are two questions – what is free speech, and what happens when someone’s words incite violence? The book is fiction, but those two questions are front and center to the political climate right now in the United States.”
Comey then explains that his novel is another example of the left’s massive hoax claim that “right-wing extremism” is a major source of violence in the U.S. He says that his book is “about a right-wing podcaster who is trying to motivate his followers to engage in acts of violence against the targets of his vitriol. And it’s about my protagonist, Nora Carleton, a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, trying to figure out, how do we stop the violence? And is there a way to hold this podcaster criminally accountable for what he clearly knows he’s doing? And that’s the trick because the line between speech and crime is – it should be clear, but it’s fuzzy.” --->READ MORE HERE
Ex-FBI Director James Comey indicted for threatening to kill Trump in ‘86 47’ Instagram post:
Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted again Tuesday, this time by a federal grand jury for threatening to kill President Trump in a May 2025 Instagram post that called to “86 47.”
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the charges during a news conference, saying that “threatening the life of the president of the United States will never be tolerated by the Department of Justice.”
The indictment, handed up in the Eastern District of North Carolina, lists one count for “knowingly and willfully making a threat to take the life of and to inflict bodily harm upon the president of the United States.”
The other count was for “knowingly and willfully transmitting an interstate commerce communication that contained a threat to kill the president of the United States.”
Comey, 65, posted an image of seashells arranged on a beach to form the numbers “86 47” on his Instagram on May 15, 2025, before deleting the message.
He later told MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace that he found it a “totally innocent” message to share and it was “crazy” that social media users and others saw it as a call for violence against the 47th president.
The number “86” is restaurant industry slang for getting rid of something, whether unruly patrons or featured menu items.
“There are multiple threats cases very similar to this one, including one where the defendant pled guilty recently to threatening former President Biden,” Blanche noted.
“I say that to say that while this case is unique and this indictment stands out because of the name of the defendant, his alleged conduct is the same kind of conduct that we will never tolerate and that we will always investigate and regularly prosecute.”
Comey issued a defiant statement in response to his federal indictment.
“I’m still innocent. I’m still not afraid. And I still believe in the independent federal judiciary, so let’s go,” he said in a video statement published on his Substack.
Comey’s lawyer, Patrick Fitzgerald, added: “Mr. Comey vigorously denies the charges contained in the Indictment filed in the Eastern District of North Carolina. We will contest these charges in the courtroom and look forward to vindicating Mr. Comey and the First Amendment.”
The charges were first reported by CNN earlier Tuesday. One of Comey’s defense attorneys in his earlier case involving alleged false statements to Congress declined to comment.
Trump survived a third assassination attempt against his life by a crazed gunman who attempted to storm the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday
Two earlier attempts were made by would-be assassins during Trump’s 2024 campaign: at a rally in Butler, Pa., and on his Florida golf course. --->READ MORE HERE
