A Tennessee Republican wants to release Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s immigration records — to settle once and for all whether the controversial “Squad” lawmaker is legally in the US.
“Let’s get to the bottom of everything. I want to know if she’s here legally, If she’s not, then we need to take appropriate action,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn) told The Post this week.
Burchett’s push for the House Intelligence Committee to obtain Omar’s records came shortly before Omar pointed and yelled at President Trump during his State of the Union Speech, after he spoke about fraud in her district and scolded Democrats for remaining seated.
His bid to get the Democrat’s records began last month, as Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) moved to have the House Oversight Committee subpoena the immigration records of Omar and her two ex husbands, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
“Public reporting has raised serious allegations Rep. Omar entered into a legal marriage in 2009 with a man she had privately identified as her brother, allegedly for the purpose of securing lawful immigration status. Reports further state she previously entered a religious marriage in 2002 which was not legally dissolved until years later,” Mace said.

Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) has formally requested that the House Intelligence Committee obtain the immigration records of Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), escalating a Republican-led effort to investigate the “Squad” member’s background and recent financial disclosures. The move coincides with a separate inquiry by the House Oversight Committee into a “stunning” increase in the declared value of businesses owned by Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett.

The request for records centers on long-standing claims involving Omar’s 2009 legal marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Critics, including Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), allege the marriage may have been a sham intended to circumvent immigration laws.
Mace recently moved to have the House Oversight Committee subpoena records for Omar and two of her former husbands, citing reports that suggest Elmi may be Omar’s brother. Omar has vehemently denied these claims, labeling them “disgusting lies.”
