ICE nabs crew of illegal migrants with disturbing rap sheets during raid of NYC’s Chinatown:
A dramatic ICE raid on unlicensed sidewalk vendors in the Big Apple nabbed a crew of dangerous illegal migrants — including Senegalese outlaws with lengthy rap sheets for drug trafficking, robbery, domestic violence and assaults on cops, the feds said Wednesday.
Federal agents descended on the long-troubled Chinatown strip on Canal Street between Lafayette and Centre streets on Tuesday, rounding up illegal vendors who peddle knockoff designer bags and stolen goods.
Nine migrants — the majority of whom were released into the US under the Biden administration — were arrested and taken into custody for deportation, Homeland Security officials said.
“ICE conducted a targeted, intelligence-driven enforcement operation on Canal Street in New York City, focused on criminal activity relating to selling counterfeit goods,” Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement Wednesday.
“ICE arrested nine illegal aliens with criminal histories including robbery, burglary, domestic violence, assaulting law enforcement, counterfeiting, drug trafficking, drug possession and forgery,” she added.
The raid came just hours after conservative social media influencer Savanah Hernandez posted from the unkempt block, calling the scene “the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”
The Post has long reported on the illegal vendors, who pack the sidewalks with fake and stolen merchandise, blocking access to legitimate retailers and leaving trash strewn long the street.
“They take over the sidewalk,” one merchant said Wednesday. “People can’t pass. The vendors don’t care. --->READ MORE HERE
New York City ICE raid nets 9 arrests of illegal aliens from West Africa, 4 protesters also arrested:
Protesters accused of blocking ICE officers in NYC
A federal raid in New York City’s Chinatown neighborhood on Tuesday resulted in the arrests of nine migrants from West Africa who were in the United States illegally, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News.
Four protesters were also taken into custody for allegedly blocking ICE officers and throwing objects at them.
Officials said the migrants are from Senegal, Mali and Guinea and were busted for allegedly selling counterfeit items in the area.
ICE said the protesters who were detained have criminal backgrounds.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News that ICE and federal partners conducted a "targeted, intelligence-driven enforcement operation" on Canal Street focused on criminal activity related to the sale of alleged counterfeit goods.
"During this law enforcement operation, rioters who were shouting obscenities, became violent and obstructed law enforcement duties, including blocking vehicles and assaulting law enforcement," McLaughlin wrote in a statement. "Already, one rioter has been arrested for assault on a federal officer."
During a news conference Tuesday night, Murad Awawdeh, vice president of advocacy at the New York Immigration Coalition, said between 15 and 40 vendors were arrested and at least two locals were taken into custody for protesting and blocking their arrest efforts. --->READ MORE HERE
