NYPD Already Losing Officers with Morale Plunging as Anti-Cop Zohran Mamdani Prepares to Take Reins; Houston Cops Tell NYPD ‘Disgusted’ With Mamdani to Move to Texas; ICE is Recruiting NYPD Officers After Zohran Mamdani’s Victory

NYPD already losing officers with morale plunging as anti-cop Zohran Mamdani prepares to take reins:
An NYPD exodus is already underway, with a surge of officers quitting in the month leading up to anti-cop socialist Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral win — and more might go if Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch exits, according to data and department sources.
The NYPD saw a 35% hike in cops of all ranks leaving in October – 245 police officers compared to 181 in the same month last year, according to Police Pension Fund data.
“Morale is down because everyone is concerned about the policies Mamdani wants to put in place,” said Detectives Endowment Association President Scott Munro.
“You have a person who is supposed to be running New York City that does not believe in law enforcement,” said Munro, a police officer for more than three decades. “What’s coming out of everyone’s mouth is, ‘We’re in trouble.'”
Whether more cops leave in the coming months will depend on the “Tisch factor,” a police union source said.
“If she leaves it may result in an uptick,” the source said. “If she stays, maybe not.”
The Police Benevolent Association, which will have to negotiate a new contract with Mamdani, bemoaned that the number of cops leaving could get worse.
“Every single month, we’re losing enough cops to staff an entire precinct,” PBA President Patrick Hendry said.
“It will certainly get worse if our city leaders don’t work with us to fix our unsustainable workload, our expired contract and the constant second-guessing that is driving good cops away from the job.”
So far new hires have helped the force keep up with attrition this year.
The NYPD has hired 2,911 new cops so far this year — the highest number in one year since 2006 — and the next class is scheduled for December, a police spokeswoman said.
The department has a uniformed headcount of 33,745, compared to the 33,812 in 2024. --->READ MORE HERE

Houston Cops Tell NYPD ‘Disgusted’ With Mamdani to Move to Texas:
The Houston Police Officers' Union is encouraging New York Police Department (NYPD) officers who are “disgusted” with the election of Zohran Mamdani as the city's mayor to join its police department in Texas.
“NYPD, are you disgusted with the election of Zohran Mamdani? Join us! The Houston Police Department is hiring police officers!” the union wrote on Facebook.
Douglas Griffith, president of the Houston Police Officer’s Union, told Newsweek that the department is short staffed and is recruiting "across the nation."
"There's a lot things going right here, and any law enforcement officer that just feels deflated by the comments of their mayor, they should come to Houston and give us a shot," Griffith said.
Why It Matters
Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa on Tuesday.
More than 2 million New York City residents voted in the election, the largest turnout in a mayoral race in more than 50 years, according to the city’s Board of Elections. Mamdani will be the city’s first Muslim mayor, the first of South Asian heritage and the first born in Africa. He will also become New York’s youngest mayor in more than a century when he takes office.
Mamdani has been criticized for comments he made in 2020 in which he said the city should “defund this rogue agency,” in reference to the NYPD. Mamdani has since said that the comment does not represent his current agenda.
He has said he will maintain NYPD staffing levels while also creating a “Department of Community Safety” that would deploy mental health care teams to respond to certain calls. --->READ MORE HERE
