Newsom Refuses To Protect Women’s Sports Days After Saying It’s ‘Unfair’ For Men To Compete:
Newsom got credit for appearing reasonable while never actually committing to anything — and that’s exactly why he created the podcast in the first place!
California Gov. Gavin Newsom refuses to protect women’s sports just days after he claimed it was “unfair” for men to play in women’s sports.
In a podcast featuring Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk, Newsom said men in women’s sports are “unfair” but did not answer Kirk’s question as to whether men should be prohibited.
Newsom then suggested that there needs to be a way to balance fairness with the mental health of these young men, otherwise they might “commit suicide.”
“There’s also a humility and a grace. You know that these poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression, and the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well,” Newsom said. “So both things I can hold in my hand. How can we address this issue with the kind of decency that I think, you know, is inherent with you.”
The Federalist asked Newsom if he would do anything to protect girls in sports and whether he would support legislation introduced by the Republican members of the California state legislature to keep men out of women’s sports. Newsom’s Deputy Director for Rapid Response Brandon Richards referred back to Newsom’s previous comments in which he said “there needs to be humility and grace on the other side” and that “When a kid’s not standing there on stage because they feel like someone had an advantage, an unfair advantage. We can find some balance, but we’re not finding it in this discourse, not on the assault of the LGBTQ community, not on the assault every single day on these poor kids.”
Newsom’s office also provided a detailed list of the actions Newsom has taken with regard to the LGBTQ movement including “strengthening protections for transgender and nonbinary individuals.”
When asked whether Newsom would support the recent legislation that was shot down by Senate Democrats that would have kept men out of women’s sports, Richards referred back to Newsom’s quote from the podcast: “The way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with. So, both things I can hold in my hand.”
Despite no change in Newsom’s position, several prominent conservative voices and influencers characterized Newsom as if he had said that men should be kept out of women’s sports. --->READ MORE HERE

California Republicans urge Newsom to walk the talk by supporting girls’ sports bill:
Now that California Gov. Gavin Newsom has said that it’s unfair for biological males to compete against female athletes, state Republicans are hoping he’ll support their girls’ sports bill.
Republican Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez introduced legislation in January that directs the California Interscholastic Federation to prohibit “a pupil whose sex was assigned male at birth from participating on a girls interscholastic sports team.”
Leading the calls for Mr. Newsom to get behind the bill was Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher.
“It’s not a radical position to believe that men have an unfair advantage against high school girls in sports,” Mr. Gallagher told The Washington Times in an email. “It’s common sense. I’m glad that Governor Newsom seems to be changing his position on this, but he needs to back up his words with action.”
He added that Mr. Newsom “needs to support our legislation to restore fairness to girls’ sports – otherwise this is nothing but more empty talk from the governor.”
Mr. Newsom stunned the political establishment Thursday by breaking with his party on transgender athletes in female sports, saying on his podcast that it’s “deeply unfair” and pointing out that Democrats are getting “crushed” on the issue.
Ms. Sanchez highlighted the governor’s comments in urging Democrats to vote for Assembly Bill 89, the Protect Girls’ Sports Act.
“As @GavinNewsom realizes, this isn’t an LGBTQ issue. PERIOD. This is about fairness in girls’ sports,” she said on X. “My bill, AB 89, to restore safety and fairness to girls’ sports in CA is coming up for a hearing. Will Assembly Democrats listen to reason and support my bill?” --->READ MORE HERE
